🔧 Rear Turn Signal Bulbs - Replacement

The rear turn signal bulbs on your CR-V are serviced from inside the tail lamp housing. This is a simple bulb swap if your vehicle has replaceable rear signal bulbs and not a sealed LED unit.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1 hour

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • Turn the lights off and let the rear lamp area cool before starting.
  • Set the parking brake and keep the vehicle in Park.
  • Do not touch the new bulb glass with bare fingers; oil can shorten bulb life.
  • If the tail lamp uses LED turn signals, the bulb is not serviceable and the lamp assembly must be replaced.
  • No battery disconnect is required for this job.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • 10mm socket
  • Ratchet
  • Trim panel tool
  • Small flat-blade screwdriver
  • Gloves
  • Safety glasses

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Rear turn signal bulb - Qty: 2

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and switch the ignition off.
  • Open the liftgate so you can reach the rear lamp access panels.
  • Have the new bulbs ready before removing the old ones.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open the liftgate and access the rear lamp area

  • Open the liftgate fully.
  • Use your hands to locate the rear lamp access area behind each tail lamp.
  • Work gently; the plastic tabs break easily.

Step 2: Remove the access cover

  • Use a trim panel tool or small flat-blade screwdriver to remove the rear lamp access cover.
  • Set the cover aside where it will not get scratched.

Step 3: Remove the bulb socket

  • Reach into the tail lamp housing and find the turn signal bulb socket.
  • Use your hand to twist the socket counterclockwise and pull it out.
  • If it feels stuck, wiggle it gently while turning.

Step 4: Replace the bulb

  • Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket.
  • Install the new bulb into the socket by pushing it in firmly.
  • Make sure it sits fully seated.
  • Compare the old and new bulb bases before installing.

Step 5: Reinstall the socket and cover

  • Insert the bulb socket back into the tail lamp housing.
  • Twist it clockwise by hand until it locks in place.
  • Reinstall the access cover by pressing it back into position.

Step 6: Test the turn signal

  • Turn the ignition on.
  • Activate the left and right turn signals one at a time.
  • Check for a bright, steady flash on each side.

✅ After Repair

  • Walk behind the vehicle and verify both rear signals flash correctly.
  • Check that the hazard lights work too.
  • If the flash rate is fast, the bulb may not be seated correctly or the wrong bulb type may be installed.
