- 🧤 Let bulbs cool before touching; hot bulbs can burn you.

📋 Before You Begin
- 🅿️ Park on level ground and put the transmission in Park.
- 🚪 Open the liftgate for access and remove any cargo that blocks the side panels.
- 🔦 Have your flashlight ready so you can see the nuts and socket clearly.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Access the tail lamp fasteners
- Open the liftgate.
- Use a trim panel removal tool (plastic) (a plastic pry tool that pops clips without scratching) to carefully pry off the small access cover/trim on the cargo-area side near the tail lamp you’re replacing.
- If a clip is stubborn, use a small flathead screwdriver gently to start it, then finish with the trim tool.
Step 2: Remove the tail lamp mounting nuts
- Use a 10mm socket, 6" extension, and 1/4" ratchet to remove the tail lamp mounting nuts (typically 2 nuts).
- Place the nuts somewhere safe so they don’t drop into the panel.
Step 3: Remove the tail lamp assembly
- With the nuts removed, hold the lamp with both hands and pull it straight rearward.
- If it feels stuck, wiggle gently while pulling—don’t pry on the painted body.
- Pull straight back to avoid breaking locating pins.
Step 4: Remove the rear turn signal bulb socket
- Locate the turn signal socket on the back of the lamp (the socket that corresponds to the turn signal position).
- Twist the socket counterclockwise by hand to unlock it, then pull it out of the lamp.
- If needed, use work gloves for extra grip.
Step 5: Replace the bulb
- Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket.
- Push the new bulb straight into the socket until fully seated.
- Do not touch the glass with bare fingers if your bulb has exposed glass; use work gloves.
Step 6: Reinstall the socket and tail lamp
- Reinsert the bulb socket into the lamp and twist clockwise to lock.
- Line up the lamp’s locating pins, then press the lamp straight into place.
- Install the nuts by hand first to avoid cross-threading, then tighten using the 10mm socket.
- Final tighten with a torque wrench: Torque to 5.5 Nm (49 in-lbs)
Step 7: Reinstall interior trim/access cover
- Snap the access cover/trim back into place by hand.
- Make sure all clips are fully seated and the panel sits flush.
✅ After Repair
- 🔁 Turn ignition ON and test the repaired turn signal (left/right) and hazards.
- 🔎 Confirm the lamp is seated evenly and there are no gaps around the lens.
- 🚿 If you recently had water in the lamp, recheck the socket seal is fully locked.
