How to Replace Rear Turn Signal Bulb on a 2016 Kia Cadenza (Trunk Access)
Step-by-step trunk-liner access instructions, required tools/parts, safety tips, and fast-blink troubleshooting

🔧 Cadenza - Rear Turn Signal Bulb Replacement
You’ll access the rear turn signal bulb from inside the trunk, remove the bulb socket, and swap the bulb. This fixes a fast-blink, no-blink, or dim rear turn signal and restores proper signaling.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.3-0.8 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Turn ignition OFF and turn signals OFF before starting.
- ⚠️ Let bulbs cool first; they can be hot.
- ⚠️ Don’t touch a new bulb’s glass with bare fingers; skin oil can shorten bulb life.
- ⚠️ Support trunk trim so it doesn’t snap or crease.
🔧 Required Tools
You'll need the following tools for this repair:
- Nitrile gloves
- Safety glasses
- Flashlight
- Plastic trim removal tool
- Small flat-blade screwdriver

Assumption: bulb type varies by housing; match the old bulb.
📋 Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
- Open the trunk and remove any cargo so you can work comfortably.
- Identify which side is out by testing the turn signal briefly, then switch it back OFF.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Access the rear lamp area from the trunk
- Use a flashlight to locate the trunk-side trim behind the tail lamp on the failed side.
- Remove the small access cover or pull back the trunk liner near the tail lamp.
- If there are plastic clips, pry them gently with a plastic trim removal tool.
- If a clip is stubborn, use a small flat-blade screwdriver carefully. Tip: Pry the clip center first.
Step 2: Remove the turn signal bulb socket
- Find the turn signal bulb socket (usually a twist-lock socket). A twist-lock socket is a bulb holder that unlocks with a short twist.
- Grip the socket and rotate it counterclockwise about 1/4 turn by hand, then pull it straight out.
- If it’s tight, wear nitrile gloves for extra grip. Tip: Wiggle gently; don’t force it.
Step 3: Remove the old bulb
- Put on safety glasses and nitrile gloves.
- Pull the bulb straight out of the socket (most wedge-base bulbs) or push in slightly and twist counterclockwise (most bayonet-base bulbs).
- Use your flashlight to compare the base style so you install the correct replacement.
Step 4: Install the new bulb
- Install the new bulb into the socket the same way the old one came out.
- Make sure it seats fully and sits straight.
- Avoid touching the bulb glass with bare hands; keep nitrile gloves on.
Step 5: Reinstall the socket and test
- Insert the socket back into the lamp housing.
- Twist clockwise by hand until it stops (locked). Tip: Hand-tight only.
- Turn ignition ON and test the rear turn signal and hazard lights.
Step 6: Refit trunk trim
- Reposition the trunk liner and reinstall any clips by pressing them in by hand.
- If you used a tool, use the plastic trim removal tool to align edges before pushing clips in.
✅ After Repair
- Verify normal blink speed on the dash indicator.
- Check both left and right rear turn signals to ensure brightness matches.
- If it still blinks fast, re-check bulb seating and the socket lock.
