š Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
- Open the liftgate for access to the tail lamp fasteners.
- If youāre unsure whether you have LED or bulbs: once the lamp is loosened, check the back for a twist-out bulb socket. If thereās no removable socket and the lamp is sealed, itās LED.
- āTrim toolā = plastic pry tool to avoid scratches.
šØ Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Access the tail lamp nuts
- Open the liftgate.
- On the side youāre working on, use the trim removal tool (plastic) (specialty) to gently pop open/remove the small interior access cover behind the tail lamp area.
Step 2: Remove the tail lamp retaining nuts
- Use a 10mm socket, 6" socket extension, and 1/4" ratchet to remove the two tail lamp nuts.
- Set the nuts aside where they wonāt fall into the trim.
Step 3: Pull the tail lamp straight outward
- Hold the lamp with both hands and pull it straight back (rearward) to release the locating pin.
- If it feels stuck, wiggle gently while pulling straight outādo not pry against painted body panels with metal tools.
Step 4A: If equipped with a replaceable bulb socket (bulb-style lamps)
- Find the turn-signal bulb socket on the back of the tail lamp.
- Twist the socket counterclockwise by hand and remove it from the housing.
- Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket (use nitrile gloves).
- Install the new rear turn signal bulb (amber, 7440 type) by pushing it straight into the socket until fully seated.
- Reinstall the socket into the lamp and twist clockwise until it locks.
Step 4B: If equipped with sealed LED tail lamps (no bulb socket)
- If there is no twist-out socket and the lamp is sealed, the rear turn signal is LED and not serviced as a bulb.
- Transfer any connectors as needed, then replace the entire rear outer tail lamp assembly (LED type, if equipped).
- Reconnect the electrical connector until the lock clicks.
Step 5: Reinstall the tail lamp
- Line up the locating pin and lamp studs with the body.
- Press the lamp straight inward until it seats flush.
- Install the two nuts using the 10mm socket, 6" socket extension, and 1/4" ratchet.
- Use a torque wrench (Nm) (specialty) and 10mm socket: Torque to 5 Nm (44 in-lbs).
- Reinstall the interior access cover using the trim removal tool (plastic) (specialty).
ā After Repair
- Turn the ignition ON and test: rear turn signal, hazards, and brake lights.
- Verify the lamp sits flush and doesnāt wobble.
- If you replaced only one bulb and the color/blink speed looks different, replace the bulb on the other side too.
