🔧 Enclave - Rear Turn Signal Bulb Replacement

On your Enclave, the rear turn signal may be a replaceable bulb or it may be a non-serviceable LED built into the tail lamp assembly. The exact steps depend on which style you have, but you can identify it in a couple minutes from inside the rear cargo area.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.3-0.8 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key/fob from the vehicle before working near the lamps.
  • ⚠️ Let the lamp cool if it was just used; bulbs can get hot.
  • ⚠️ Do not touch a new glass bulb with bare fingers; skin oil can shorten bulb life.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Safety glasses
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Flashlight
  • Plastic trim removal tool (specialty)

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Rear turn signal bulb (match the bulb number from the old bulb) - Qty: 1
  • Rear turn signal bulbs (replace in pairs) - Qty: 2

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground, shift to Park, and set the parking brake.
  • Open the liftgate and clear the rear cargo area for access to the side trim.
  • Quick check: if the turn signal is an LED strip and there is no amber bulb socket behind the lamp, the fix may require replacing the tail lamp assembly (not a bulb).

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Confirm whether your Enclave uses a replaceable bulb

  • Open the liftgate and use a flashlight to look behind the tail lamp area from inside the cargo trim (left and/or right side).
  • If you see a round twist-in socket going into the tail lamp, you have a replaceable bulb.
  • If you do not see any bulb sockets and the lamp appears sealed, it’s likely an LED tail lamp (assembly replacement, not a bulb).

Step 2: Access the rear lamp socket (bulb-type lamps)

  • Remove the small access cover in the cargo-side trim by hand; if it’s tight, gently pry with a plastic trim removal tool (specialty).
  • Use a flashlight to identify the turn signal socket (usually an amber bulb/specific socket position).

Step 3: Remove the turn signal bulb socket

  • Grip the socket and rotate it counterclockwise by hand, then pull it straight out.
  • Turn gently; plastic tabs can crack.

Step 4: Replace the bulb

  • Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket (or twist if it’s a twist-lock style).
  • Install the new bulb using nitrile gloves (avoid touching the glass).
  • Match the bulb number printed on the old bulb to buy the correct replacement.

Step 5: Reinstall the socket and access cover

  • Insert the socket back into the lamp and rotate clockwise until it locks fully.
  • Reinstall the trim access cover by pressing it back into place by hand.

✅ After Repair

  • Turn the ignition ON and test the rear turn signal, hazards, and brake lights.
  • If the new bulb doesn’t work, remove it and rotate 180° (some wedge bulbs can be polarity-sensitive in certain housings) and retest.
  • If you still have a fast-blink after replacement, check the other rear turn bulb on the opposite side.

💰 DIY vs Shop Cost

Shop Cost: $60-$150 (parts + labor)

DIY Cost: $5-$25 (parts only)

You Save: $55-$125 by doing it yourself!

Shop labor rates vary but typically run $100-$150/hour. This repair takes a shop approximately 0.3-0.8 hours.

Two quick questions so I can give you the exact steps (bulb vs LED):

  • ❓ When you open the cargo-area access cover behind the tail lamp, do you see a round twist-in bulb socket?
  • ❓ Can you upload a quick photo of the back side of the tail lamp area (inside the cargo trim opening)?
