How to Replace Low & High Beam Headlight Bulbs on a 2018 Nissan Murano
Step-by-step wheel-well access method with tools, parts list, safety tips, and torque specs

🔧 Murano - Headlight Bulb Replacement
On your Murano, “headlights” can mean the low beam and the high beam. If you have halogen bulbs, you can replace them from behind the headlight housing (low beam access is usually tighter and often easiest through the wheel-well liner).
Difficulty Level: Intermediate | Estimated Time: 0.8-1.5 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Turn lights OFF and let bulbs cool; they get very hot.
- ⚠️ Do not touch new halogen glass with bare fingers; oil causes early failure. Use nitrile gloves.
- ⚠️ Support the vehicle with jack stands if lifting; never rely on a floor jack alone.
- ⚠️ If your Murano has LED headlights, there may be no replaceable “bulb” (the whole lamp/module is serviced instead).

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:
- Low beam headlight bulb (halogen) - Qty: 2
- High beam headlight bulb (halogen) - Qty: 2
- Plastic push clips for fender liner/undercover - Qty: 4-10
đź“‹ Before You Begin
- Park on level ground, shift to Park, and set the parking brake.
- Turn the steering wheel full lock away from the side you’re working on (gives more room at the liner).
- If you’ll lift the vehicle, place wheel chocks at the opposite wheels.
- Quick check: look at the headlight itself—if it says LED on the housing or you have a very white “strip-like” beam pattern, you may have LED units.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Confirm what you’re replacing (low vs high beam)
- Turn the lights on briefly and identify which side is out: low beam (normal headlights) and/or high beam (brights).
- Turn lights OFF and remove the key/fob from the vehicle area.
Step 2: Get access (wheel-well method for tighter bulb access)
- Turn the steering wheel to create space at the fender liner.
- If you need more room, use floor jack at the front jacking point and support with jack stands.
- If removing the front wheel, use 21mm socket to remove lug nuts, then reinstall later and Torque to 133 Nm (98 ft-lbs).
Step 3: Pull back the fender liner
- Use a trim clip removal tool to pop out the plastic push-clips along the front/upper edge of the liner.
- If equipped with screws, remove them with a Phillips screwdriver #2.
- Gently pull the liner back to expose the rear of the headlight housing. Don’t crease the liner.
Step 4: Replace the low beam bulb (halogen setup)
- Locate the rear dust cap/bulb socket on the headlight.
- Twist the bulb socket counterclockwise by hand to unlock it, then pull it straight out.
- Press the electrical connector tab and unplug the bulb.
- Install the new bulb (wear nitrile gloves), plug in the connector, then insert and twist clockwise to lock.
Step 5: Replace the high beam bulb (halogen setup)
- Find the high beam socket (usually closer to the inner side of the housing).
- Twist the socket counterclockwise, unplug the connector, and remove the bulb.
- Install the new bulb with nitrile gloves, reconnect, and twist clockwise to lock.
Step 6: If your Murano has LED headlights
- If there is no removable bulb socket (only a sealed module/large heatsink), the “bulb” is not serviced separately.
- At that point, stop here and tell me what the headlight label says (LED/Halogen) and which function is out (low/high/DRL). I’ll give you the correct Murano-specific repair path.
Step 7: Reassemble the liner/wheel
- Reposition the fender liner and reinstall clips using the trim clip removal tool (press the pin to lock).
- If removed, reinstall the wheel using a 21mm socket, then Torque to 133 Nm (98 ft-lbs) with a torque wrench.
âś… After Repair
- Turn on low beams and high beams to confirm both sides work.
- Check that the fender liner is secure and not rubbing the tire.
- If a bulb doesn’t light: re-check the connector is fully seated and the bulb is locked in place.
