š§ Edge - Headlight Bulb Replacement
Youāll replace the bulbs for both headlamps (typically the low beams and high beams). This restores safe nighttime visibility and prevents one new/one old bulb color mismatch.
Assumption: Your Edge has halogen bulbs (common on SEL): Low beam = H11, High beam = 9005. If yours has factory HID/LED, the bulb type and steps differ.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.8-1.5 hours
ā ļø Safety & Precautions
- ā ļø Turn the headlights OFF and remove the key before starting.
- ā ļø Let the bulbs cool for at least 10 minutes; they get extremely hot.
- ā ļø Wear gloves and do not touch the new bulb glass; skin oil can shorten bulb life.
- ā ļø Do not force the bulb socketāplastic tabs can break when cold.

šØ Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Make room behind the passenger-side headlamp
- Use a flashlight to locate the back of the passenger headlamp housing.
- If the air intake/snorkel blocks access, remove the fasteners with an 8mm socket, 1/4" ratchet, and 6" extension.
- Pop any plastic clips using a trim clip removal tool (this tool lifts push-clips without breaking them).
- Reinstall fasteners later and Torque to 4 Nm (35 in-lbs).
Step 2: Remove the low beam bulb (passenger side)
- Find the low beam socket at the back of the headlamp (usually the larger, more inboard socket).
- Twist the bulb/socket counterclockwise by hand to unlock it.
- Press the electrical connector tab and pull the connector off. If itās stubborn, gently help it with a flathead screwdriver.
Step 3: Install the new low beam bulb (passenger side)
- With nitrile gloves on, plug the connector onto the new H11 bulb until it clicks.
- If desired, use a tiny dab of dielectric grease.
- Insert the bulb into the housing, then twist clockwise by hand until it fully locks (snugādo not over-tighten).
Step 4: Remove and install the high beam bulb (passenger side)
- Locate the high beam socket (often the more outboard socket).
- Twist counterclockwise by hand to remove, then unplug the connector.
- Install the new 9005 bulb, plug it in, and twist clockwise to lock.
Step 5: Repeat the bulb replacement on the driver side
- Move to the driver-side headlamp and repeat the same steps for H11 (low) and 9005 (high).
- If any covers/ducting are in the way, remove fasteners with an 8mm socket and reinstall them after, Torque to 4 Nm (35 in-lbs).
Step 6: Reinstall intake/trim pieces you removed
- Reinstall any air snorkel/ducting and push-clips using the trim clip removal tool (to line them up) and your hands to push them in.
- Tighten any 8mm fasteners with an 8mm socket and 1/4" ratchet, Torque to 4 Nm (35 in-lbs).
ā After Repair
- ā Start the Edge and turn on low beams, then high beams, and confirm both sides work.
- ā If a bulb doesnāt light, turn lights off and re-check the connector is fully clicked in.
- ā At night, verify the beam pattern looks even; if itās wildly off, the bulb may not be seated/locked.
