🔧 Camry - Headlight Bulb Replacement
You’ll replace the headlight bulbs by accessing the back of each headlamp housing from inside the engine bay. The key is not touching the new bulb glass with bare fingers, because skin oils can shorten bulb life.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1.0 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Turn the lights OFF and remove the key before starting.
- ⚠️ Let the bulbs cool 10+ minutes; they get extremely hot.
- ⚠️ Wear gloves and do not touch the new bulb glass.
- ⚠️ If you must reach near the cooling fan, keep hands clear (fan can start unexpectedly).
- 🔋 Battery disconnect is not required for this job.
🔧 Required Tools
You'll need the following tools for this repair:
- Nitrile gloves
- Safety glasses
- Flashlight
- 10mm socket
- 3/8" ratchet
- Trim clip removal tool

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:
- Low beam headlight bulb (H11 halogen) - Qty: 2
- High beam headlight bulb (9005 halogen) - Qty: 2
- Dielectric grease - Qty: 1
📋 Before You Begin
- Park on level ground, shift to Park, and set the parking brake.
- Open the hood and use a flashlight to locate the rear of each headlamp.
- Put on nitrile gloves and safety glasses.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Identify the bulbs on the back of the headlamp
- Use a flashlight to look behind the headlamp assembly.
- The low beam (H11) is the projector/primary night-driving bulb.
- The high beam (9005) is the brighter “brights” bulb.
Step 2: Make more room (passenger side, if needed)
- If access is tight, use a trim clip removal tool to remove intake snorkel clips.
- Use a 10mm socket and 3/8" ratchet to loosen/remove the snorkel/air duct fasteners as needed.
- Move the duct aside gently—no force.
- Torque to 7.5 Nm (66 in-lbs) when reinstalling any 10mm air duct/air box bolts.
Step 3: Remove the low beam bulb (H11) on one side
- Use a flashlight to find the H11 bulb socket at the rear of the headlamp.
- With nitrile gloves on, press the electrical connector tab and pull the connector straight off the bulb.
- Rotate the bulb/socket counterclockwise (about 1/8–1/4 turn) by hand, then pull it straight out.
Step 4: Install the new low beam bulb (H11)
- Keep nitrile gloves on and do not touch the glass.
- Optional: Apply a tiny smear of dielectric grease to the connector seal (this is a silicone grease that helps keep moisture out).
- Insert the new bulb into the housing, align the tabs, then twist clockwise until it locks.
- Push the connector back on until it clicks.
Step 5: Repeat Steps 3–4 for the other low beam
- Use the flashlight to work on the other side and replace the second H11.
Step 6: Remove the high beam bulb (9005) on one side
- Use a flashlight to locate the 9005 bulb socket.
- With nitrile gloves on, press the connector tab and pull the connector straight off.
- Rotate the bulb counterclockwise by hand and pull it out.
Step 7: Install the new high beam bulb (9005)
- With nitrile gloves on, insert the new bulb, align tabs, and twist clockwise until locked.
- Reconnect the plug until it clicks.
Step 8: Repeat Steps 6–7 for the other high beam
- Use the flashlight to replace the second 9005.
Step 9: Reinstall any intake/duct parts you moved
- Reposition the duct/snorkel.
- Use a 10mm socket and 3/8" ratchet to reinstall bolts.
- Reinstall clips using the trim clip removal tool (press clips in straight).
- Torque to 7.5 Nm (66 in-lbs) for any 10mm bolts you removed.
✅ After Repair
- Turn the headlights on and confirm: low beams, high beams, and both sides work.
- If a bulb doesn’t light, turn lights off and re-check the connector is fully clicked in.
- Replace bulbs in pairs for matching color.
