🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Remove the engine cover

• Grip the plastic engine cover and pull upward firmly to pop it off (it’s held by rubber grommets).
• If any clips resist, use a trim clip tool to help lift gently.

Step 2: Unplug the ignition coil connector

• At the coil you’re replacing, press the connector lock tab and pull the connector straight off.
• If the tab is stubborn, use a small flathead screwdriver to gently lift the tab while pulling. Do not pry hard.

Step 3: Remove the coil hold-down bolt

• Use a 10mm socket, 3" extension, and 1/4" ratchet to remove the bolt holding the coil down.
• Set the bolt somewhere safe so it doesn’t drop into the engine bay.

Step 4: Remove the ignition coil

• Twist the coil left-right to break it free, then pull straight up.
• The rubber “boot” (the long rubber part) goes down to the spark plug—pulling straight helps prevent tearing.

Step 5: Install the new ignition coil

• Put a tiny smear of dielectric grease inside the coil boot (this is a non-conductive grease that helps prevent moisture and makes future removal easier).
• Push the new coil straight down until it fully seats on the spark plug.

Step 6: Reinstall and torque the hold-down bolt

• Start the bolt by hand to avoid cross-threading.
• Use a torque wrench with a 10mm socket to tighten the bolt: Torque to 9 Nm (80 in-lbs).
• A torque wrench is a tool that tightens bolts to an exact safe tightness.

Step 7: Reconnect the coil connector and reinstall the cover

• Push the electrical connector on until it clicks.
• Reinstall the engine cover by lining it up and pressing down firmly.
• Reconnect the negative battery terminal using a 10mm wrench.
