How to Replace Headlight Bulbs on a 2020 Hyundai Palisade (Low/High Beam Guide)
Step-by-step access, tools list, bulb-type checks (halogen vs LED), and safety tips for both sides

🔧 Palisade - Headlight Bulb Replacement
On your Palisade, “headlight bulbs” can mean different things (low beam, high beam, DRL/turn signal), and some headlamp types are LED and not bulb-serviceable. I can give you exact bulb type, access point, and the correct steps once we confirm which headlamp setup you have.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1.5 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Turn the lights OFF and let the headlamp cool before touching it.
- ⚠️ Do not touch halogen bulb glass with bare fingers; skin oil can shorten bulb life.
- ⚠️ Support the hood securely and keep tools away from the battery positive terminal.
🔧 Required Tools
You'll need the following tools for this repair:
- Nitrile gloves
- Safety glasses
- Flashlight
- Trim clip removal tool
- 10mm socket
- 1/4" ratchet
- 6" extension (1/4")
- Small flat-blade screwdriver
🔩 Required Parts
HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:
- Headlight bulb(s) - Qty: 2
📋 Before You Begin
- Park on level ground, shift to Park, and set the parking brake.
- Open the hood and make sure the headlight switch is OFF.
- Please confirm these 2 things so I can give the exact bulb type and steps:
- ❓ Are you replacing low beams, high beams, or both?
- ❓ Do your headlights look like a replaceable bulb with a rear dust cap/connector (serviceable), or a sealed LED unit (often not bulb-serviceable)? If you can, tell me what the old bulb number says (example: H7, 9005, etc.).
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Access the rear of the headlamp
- Use flashlight to locate the back of the headlamp housing behind the headlight.
- If an air duct cover or small trim panel blocks access, remove clips with a trim clip removal tool.
- If a small bracket or reservoir fastener limits your hand room, loosen bolts using a 10mm socket, 1/4" ratchet, and 6" extension (1/4").
Step 2: Remove the bulb cover (if equipped)
- Twist the rear dust cap counterclockwise by hand and remove it.
- If a connector lock tab is tight, gently assist with a small flat-blade screwdriver (do not pry hard).
Step 3: Disconnect and remove the bulb (serviceable halogen-style)
- Pull the electrical connector straight off the bulb.
- Remove the bulb by turning it counterclockwise (twist-lock style) or by releasing the retaining clip (clip style).
- Keep the new bulb perfectly clean.
Step 4: Install the new bulb
- Wear nitrile gloves and install the new bulb in the same orientation as the old one.
- Lock it in place (twist clockwise until fully seated, or re-latch the retaining clip).
- Reconnect the electrical connector until it clicks.
Step 5: Reassemble and repeat on the other side
- Reinstall the dust cap by turning clockwise until snug.
- Reinstall any ducts/panels and push clips back in by hand.
- Repeat Steps 1–4 for the other headlight.
Step 6: If your Palisade has sealed LED headlights
- Some LED headlamp versions do not have replaceable “bulbs”; they use LED modules integrated into the housing.
- If there is no removable dust cap and no bulb socket, tell me what you see and I’ll guide you to the correct replaceable lamp (if any) or the correct repair path.
✅ After Repair
- Turn the headlights on and verify both sides work on the setting you replaced (low/high).
- Check that the dust caps and connectors are fully seated to prevent moisture inside the headlamp.
- If the new bulbs still don’t light, swap left/right bulbs to confirm it’s not a fuse or connector issue.
