🔧 Rogue - Headlight Bulb Replacement

You can replace the headlight bulbs on your Rogue from under the hood, without removing the bumper. Each side has separate bulbs for low beam and high beam.

📋 Before You Begin

• Park the Rogue on level ground, set the parking brake, and turn off the engine.
• Turn the headlight switch to OFF and allow a few minutes for the bulbs to cool.
• Open the hood using the interior hood release and then the hood latch at the front.
• Prop the hood securely with the hood support rod.
• Battery disconnect is not required for this job, but you can remove the negative terminal with a wrench if you prefer extra safety.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Identify which bulb is which

• Use the flashlight to look at the back of the headlight housing from inside the engine bay.
• The outer, lower bulb on each headlight is the low beam (H11).
• The inner, upper bulb on each headlight is the high beam (9005/HB3).
• Decide if you are changing low beams only, high beams only, or both.

Step 2: Remove the upper radiator cover (if needed for space)

• Use the flathead screwdriver to gently lift the center pins of the plastic push clips along the front radiator cover.
• Use the trim clip removal tool to pull out each clip without breaking it.
• Lift off the plastic radiator cover and set it aside.
• This gives your hands more room near the headlights.

Step 3: Access the driver-side low beam bulb

• Stand at the front, driver side, and look behind the headlight housing using the flashlight.
• Locate the round plastic bulb base for the low beam toward the outer side of the headlight.
• Use the small inspection mirror if needed to see the back of the bulb clearly.

Step 4: Disconnect and remove the driver-side low beam bulb

• With gloves on, press the tab on the electrical connector with your fingers and pull the connector straight back off the bulb.
• Grip the bulb base firmly and rotate it about 1/4 turn counterclockwise by hand until it stops.
• Pull the bulb straight out of the headlight housing.
• Do not twist hard; it should come out smoothly.

Step 5: Install the new driver-side low beam bulb

• Take a new H11 low beam bulb out of its package, holding it only by the plastic base (not the glass).
• If desired, apply a tiny amount of dielectric grease inside the electrical connector using a clean fingertip.
• Align the bulb’s tabs with the slots in the housing and insert the bulb straight in.
• Rotate the bulb base about 1/4 turn clockwise by hand until it locks.
• Push the electrical connector onto the bulb base until it clicks into place.

Step 6: Repeat low beam replacement on the passenger side

• Move to the passenger side and repeat Steps 3–5 for the low beam.
• You may have slightly less room due to the washer fluid tank; work slowly and use the inspection mirror if needed.
• Changing both sides ensures even brightness and color.

Step 7: Replace driver-side high beam bulb (optional but recommended)

• Locate the high beam bulb on the driver side; it is the inner bulb on the headlight housing.
• Use the flashlight and inspection mirror to see the base clearly.
• Press the connector tab with your fingers and pull the connector straight back off the bulb.
• Rotate the bulb base 1/4 turn counterclockwise by hand and pull it straight out.
• Install a new 9005/HB3 high beam bulb by inserting it, then turning it 1/4 turn clockwise until it locks, and reconnect the wiring connector until it clicks.

Step 8: Replace passenger-side high beam bulb (optional)

• Repeat the same process from Step 7 on the passenger side.
• Space may be tighter; move hoses gently out of the way with your hand if needed, but do not disconnect anything.

Step 9: Reinstall the upper radiator cover

• Place the plastic radiator cover back over the front area.
• Align the holes and insert the plastic push clips.
• Press the clips into place with your fingers, then push the center pins down using the flathead screwdriver until they are flush.

Step 10: Check headlight operation

• Turn the ignition to ON (or start the engine).
• Turn on the low beams and walk to the front to verify both sides are lit.
• Switch to high beams and verify both high beams are working.
• Check that the beams look even and similar in color and brightness.

✅ After Repair

• Verify low and high beams, left and right, work correctly.
• Drive at night on a safe, straight road and make sure the headlights illuminate the road evenly without pointing too high.
• If the beam aim looks off (for example too high and blinding others), have the headlight aim checked and adjusted by a shop, or adjust using the headlight adjusters behind the housing.
• Dispose of old bulbs safely; do not throw hot bulbs directly into the trash.
