🔧 Tacoma - Front Wiper Blade Replacement

The front wiper blades on your Tacoma are a quick wear item and should be replaced when they streak, chatter, or leave spots. This is a simple driveway job that usually takes only a few minutes and restores clear visibility in rain.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.2-0.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • Turn the ignition off and make sure the wiper switch is off before starting.
  • Keep the wiper arms from snapping back onto the glass, which can crack the windshield.
  • Work carefully around the windshield edge and cowl area.
  • No battery disconnect is required for this repair.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • No special tools required
  • Safety glasses
  • Gloves

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blade set - Driver: 22", Passenger: 20" - Qty: 1 set

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground with the parking brake set.
  • Turn the wipers off and let the arms rest in the parked position.
  • Raise one wiper arm at a time so it does not hit the glass.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Lift the wiper arm

  • Gently lift the driver-side wiper arm away from the windshield.
  • Hold the arm securely so it cannot spring back.
  • Protect the glass at all times.

Step 2: Release the old blade

  • Look for the small locking tab where the blade attaches to the arm.
  • Use your fingers to press the tab and slide the blade down and off the arm.
  • If it feels stuck, wiggle it gently instead of forcing it.

Step 3: Install the new blade

  • Line up the new blade with the wiper arm connector.
  • Slide it into place until you hear or feel it click.
  • Pull lightly on the blade to make sure it is locked in.

Step 4: Repeat on the other side

  • Repeat the same process for the passenger-side blade.
  • Make sure the shorter blade goes on the passenger side if the set is size-specific.

Step 5: Lower the arms carefully

  • Lower each wiper arm back onto the windshield slowly.
  • Do not let it drop onto the glass.

Step 6: Test the new blades

  • Turn the ignition on and spray washer fluid.
  • Run the wipers and check for smooth movement, even contact, and no streaking.

✅ After Repair

  • Check both blades for proper seating after the first wipe cycle.
  • Confirm the blades do not skip, chatter, or leave dry spots.
  • Keep the windshield clean for best blade life.
