🔧 Front Wiper Blades - Replacement

Replacing the front wiper blades on your Explorer is a quick maintenance job that restores clear visibility in rain and road spray. The blade size and arm style matter, so install the correct left and right blades and make sure they lock fully onto the wiper arms.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.2-0.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • Turn the ignition off before lifting the wiper arms.
  • Keep the wiper arms supported so they do not snap onto the windshield.
  • Do not let the bare metal arm hit the glass.
  • If the vehicle has wiper service mode, use it before starting.
  • No battery disconnect is required.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • None required
  • Clean microfiber towel
  • Gloves
  • Safety glasses

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blade, driver side 22" - Qty: 1
  • Front wiper blade, passenger side 22" - Qty: 1

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Turn the ignition off and remove the key or stop button state.
  • If your Explorer has a wiper service position in the menu, set the wipers to service mode before lifting the arms.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Raise the wiper arms

  • If needed, use the wiper service position first. On vehicles with this function, use the vehicle menu to move the blades to service position before lifting the arms.
  • Lift one wiper arm away from the glass and hold it steady.
  • Support the arm carefully.

Step 2: Remove the old blade

  • Use your fingers to press the small release tab where the blade connects to the arm.
  • Slide the old blade downward and off the arm.
  • Set the old blade aside.

Step 3: Install the new blade

  • Use the correct 22" front wiper blade for that side.
  • Slide the new blade onto the arm until it clicks into place.
  • Pull lightly on the blade to confirm it is locked.

Step 4: Repeat on the other side

  • Repeat the same removal and installation process on the second front blade.
  • Make sure the driver and passenger blades are installed on the correct sides.

Step 5: Lower and test the wipers

  • Carefully lower both arms onto the windshield.
  • Turn the ignition on and run the front wipers with washer fluid for one cycle.
  • Check for smooth movement, proper parking, and no skipping or chatter.

✅ After Repair

  • Spray washer fluid and confirm both blades clear the glass evenly.
  • If either blade streaks, make sure it is fully locked onto the arm.
  • Keep the windshield clean for best wiper life.
