🔧 Altima - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement
Replacing the front windshield wiper blades on your Altima is a quick beginner-friendly job. Worn blades can streak, chatter, or leave water behind, which reduces visibility in rain.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 10-15 minutes
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Do not let the bare metal wiper arm snap back onto the windshield; it can crack the glass.
- ⚠️ Turn the ignition off before starting so the wipers cannot move unexpectedly.
- ⚠️ If the windshield is dry or dusty, avoid running the wipers until the new blades are installed.
- ⚠️ Battery disconnect is not required for this repair.
🔧 Required Tools
You'll need the following tools for this repair:
- Clean microfiber towel
- Safety glasses

🔩 Required Parts
HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:
- Front wiper blades - Driver: 28", Passenger: 16" - Qty: 2
📋 Before You Begin
- Park your Altima on level ground and turn the ignition completely off.
- Make sure the wiper switch is in the OFF position.
- Place a clean microfiber towel on the windshield under each wiper arm. This protects the glass if the arm slips.
- Use replacement blades with the correct hook-style adapter installed. The adapter is the small connector that locks the blade to the wiper arm.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Lift the Driver Wiper Arm
- Put on safety glasses and nitrile gloves.
- Use your hand to lift the driver-side wiper arm away from the windshield until it stays upright.
- Place a clean microfiber towel between the arm and windshield for protection.
- Hold the arm firmly.
Step 2: Release the Old Driver Wiper Blade
- Find the small locking tab at the center of the old wiper blade where it connects to the wiper arm.
- Use your thumb to press the locking tab.
- While holding the tab, slide the blade downward toward the base of the wiper arm.
- The blade will slide out of the J-hook. A J-hook is the curved end of the wiper arm that holds the blade.
Step 3: Remove the Old Driver Wiper Blade
- Use your hand to pull the old blade completely off the wiper arm.
- Do not release the bare metal wiper arm.
- Gently rest the arm on the clean microfiber towel if you need both hands.
Step 4: Install the New Driver Wiper Blade
- Use the new 28" front wiper blade for the driver side.
- Make sure the hook-style adapter on the blade is open and facing the wiper arm hook.
- Slide the new blade upward into the J-hook until it clicks.
- Gently tug the blade downward by hand to confirm it is locked in place.
- No fasteners are used, so no torque spec applies.
Step 5: Lower the Driver Wiper Arm
- Use your hand to slowly lower the wiper arm back onto the windshield.
- Keep the clean microfiber towel in place until the blade touches the glass.
- Remove the towel once the blade is safely resting on the windshield.
Step 6: Replace the Passenger Wiper Blade
- Lift the passenger-side wiper arm by hand.
- Place the clean microfiber towel under the arm on the windshield.
- Press the locking tab on the old blade with your thumb.
- Slide the old blade downward out of the J-hook.
- Install the new 16" front wiper blade by sliding it upward into the J-hook until it clicks.
- Gently tug the blade by hand to make sure it is locked.
- Slowly lower the arm back onto the windshield.
Step 7: Test the New Wipers
- Use the washer spray before running the wipers so the glass is wet.
- Turn the ignition ON without starting the engine if needed.
- Use the wiper stalk to run the wipers on low speed.
- Check that both blades wipe smoothly without streaking, skipping, or hitting the windshield trim.
✅ After Repair
- ✅ Confirm both blades sit flat against the windshield.
- ✅ Make sure the driver blade is the longer 28" blade and the passenger blade is the shorter 16" blade.
- ✅ If you hear clicking or see the blade wobble, stop the wipers and re-seat the blade until it locks.
- ✅ Clean the windshield with washer fluid to remove dirt that can shorten wiper blade life.
