📋 Before You Begin
- 🅿️ Park your Grand Cherokee on level ground and shift to Park.
- 🔌 Turn the ignition off and remove the key fob from the vehicle.
- 🧼 Clean the lower windshield area with a clean microfiber towel so grit does not scratch the glass.
- 🧠 A wiper arm is the metal arm that holds the rubber wiper blade against the windshield.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Lift the Driver-Side Wiper Arm
- Put on safety glasses and nitrile gloves.
- Use your hand to gently lift the driver-side wiper arm away from the windshield until it stays upright.
- Place a clean microfiber towel on the windshield under the raised arm as a cushion.
- Protect the glass first.
Step 2: Locate the Blade Release Tab
- Look where the blade connects to the wiper arm.
- Your Grand Cherokee uses a hook-style wiper arm; the blade slides into a curved hook at the end of the arm.
- A release tab is the small plastic button or latch that unlocks the blade from the arm.
Step 3: Remove the Old Driver-Side Wiper Blade
- Use your thumb to press the plastic release tab on the wiper blade connector.
- While holding the tab, slide the blade downward toward the base of the wiper arm to unhook it.
- Pull the blade off the hook-style arm by hand.
- Keep one hand on the metal wiper arm so it does not spring back onto the glass.
Step 4: Install the New Driver-Side Wiper Blade
- Take the new 22" front wiper blade for the driver side.
- Slide the blade connector into the hook at the end of the wiper arm by hand.
- Pull the blade upward into the hook until it clicks into place.
- Gently tug the blade by hand to confirm it is locked.
- No torque spec applies because there are no bolts or nuts for this repair.
Step 5: Lower the Driver-Side Wiper Arm
- Use one hand to hold the wiper arm and the other hand to remove the clean microfiber towel.
- Slowly lower the new blade onto the windshield.
- Do not drop the arm onto the glass.
Step 6: Replace the Passenger-Side Wiper Blade
- Use your hand to lift the passenger-side wiper arm away from the windshield.
- Place the clean microfiber towel under the arm to protect the glass.
- Press the blade release tab by hand.
- Slide the old blade downward and off the hook-style wiper arm.
- Install the new 21" front wiper blade by sliding it into the hook until it clicks.
- Gently tug the blade by hand to make sure it is secure.
- Remove the towel and slowly lower the blade onto the windshield.
Step 7: Check Blade Position
- Use your hands to make sure both blades sit flat against the windshield.
- Confirm the rubber edges are not twisted or folded.
- Make sure the driver-side blade is the 22" blade and the passenger-side blade is the 21" blade.
✅ After Repair
- 💧 Spray windshield washer fluid and run the wipers for a few passes.
- 👀 Check that both blades wipe smoothly without streaking, skipping, or chattering.
- 🔒 If a blade comes loose, turn the wipers off immediately and re-seat the blade until it clicks.
- 🧼 Clean the windshield if the new blades still streak; oily glass can make good blades wipe poorly.
