🔧 Front Windshield Wipers - Replacement

Your Tacoma uses a simple hook-style wiper arm, so this is a quick swap. The main job is choosing the correct blade length and locking each new blade fully into the arm.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 15-30 minutes

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • Keep the wiper arm under control when removing the old blade. A bare metal arm can snap against the glass and crack the windshield.
  • Work with the ignition off and the wipers parked.
  • If the arms are lifted away from the glass, support them gently.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Clean microfiber towel
  • Small flat-blade screwdriver
  • Safety glasses

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blade - Driver: 22" - Qty: 1
  • Front wiper blade - Passenger: 20" - Qty: 1

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and turn the ignition off.
  • Make sure the wipers are parked at the bottom of the windshield.
  • Lift one wiper arm at a time.
  • Place a towel on the glass under the arm for protection.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Lift the wiper arm

  • Lift the wiper arm away from the windshield until it stays up on its own.
  • Use a towel to protect the glass.

Step 2: Remove the old blade

  • Use your hand to find the small release tab where the blade connects to the arm.
  • Press the release tab and slide the blade downward off the hook.
  • If the tab is tight, use a small flat-blade screwdriver carefully to press the release.

Step 3: Compare the new blade

  • Match the new blade length to the side you are installing.
  • Check that the connector style matches the hook on the arm.
  • Do not force the wrong connector.

Step 4: Install the new blade

  • Slide the wiper arm hook into the blade connector.
  • Pull the blade upward until it clicks into place.
  • Tug gently on the blade to make sure it is locked on.

Step 5: Lower the arm carefully

  • Lower the arm back onto the windshield slowly.
  • Repeat the same steps on the other side.
  • Never let the bare arm snap down.

✅ After Repair

  • Turn the wipers on and test both blades.
  • Check for streaking, skipping, or loose attachment.
  • If a blade chatters, clean the windshield and the rubber edge with a microfiber towel.
