🔧 Altima - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement
Replacing the front windshield wiper blades is a simple beginner-friendly repair. Worn blades can streak, chatter, or leave water behind, which reduces visibility in rain.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 10-15 minutes
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Do not let the bare metal wiper arm snap back onto the windshield. It can crack the glass.
- ⚠️ Turn the ignition OFF before working near the wipers.
- ⚠️ Keep your fingers clear of the wiper arm hinge. It is spring-loaded, meaning it can move with force.
- ⚠️ Battery disconnect is not required for this repair.

🔩 Required Parts
HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:
- Front wiper blades - Driver: 28", Passenger: 16" - Qty: 2
📋 Before You Begin
- 🅿️ Park your Altima on level ground and turn the ignition OFF.
- 🧼 Make sure the windshield is clean enough that dirt will not scratch the glass while you work.
- 🧺 Place a microfiber towel on the windshield under each wiper arm before removing the blade.
- 🔎 Your Altima uses hook-style front wiper arms. A hook-style arm has a curved “J” end that locks into the wiper blade.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Lift the Driver Wiper Arm
- Put on safety glasses.
- Use your hand to gently lift the driver-side wiper arm away from the windshield until it stays upright.
- Place a microfiber towel on the glass under the raised arm.
- Protect the glass first.
Step 2: Release the Old Driver Wiper Blade
- Use your fingers to find the small locking tab where the blade connects to the hooked wiper arm.
- Press the locking tab with your thumb.
- While holding the tab, slide the blade downward toward the base of the wiper arm.
- Once it clears the hook, pull the blade off the arm by hand.
Step 3: Install the New Driver Wiper Blade
- Hold the new 28" driver-side wiper blade so the adapter opening lines up with the hook on the wiper arm.
- Use your hand to slide the blade up into the hook until it clicks into place.
- Gently tug the blade downward by hand to make sure it is locked.
- There are no bolts or torque specs for this repair.
- Listen for the click.
Step 4: Lower the Driver Wiper Arm
- Use your hand to carefully lower the wiper arm back onto the windshield.
- Do not drop it or let it snap down.
Step 5: Replace the Passenger Wiper Blade
- Use your hand to lift the passenger-side wiper arm away from the windshield.
- Place the microfiber towel under the raised arm.
- Press the blade’s locking tab with your thumb.
- Slide the old blade downward to release it from the hook.
- Remove the old blade by hand.
- Slide the new 16" passenger-side wiper blade into the hook until it clicks.
- Gently tug the blade to confirm it is locked.
- Carefully lower the arm back onto the windshield.
Step 6: Check Blade Position
- Use your hand to confirm both blades sit flat against the windshield.
- Make sure each blade’s rubber edge faces the glass evenly.
- Remove the microfiber towel from the windshield.
✅ After Repair
- 💧 Spray windshield washer fluid and run the wipers for a few passes.
- 👀 Check for streaking, skipping, or chatter.
- 🔒 If a blade looks loose, turn the wipers OFF and re-seat it until it clicks.
- 🧽 Clean the windshield if the new blades still streak. Dirt or wax on the glass can make good blades perform poorly.
