🔧 Grand Cherokee - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement
Replacing the front windshield wiper blades is a quick beginner repair that restores clear visibility in rain, dust, and washer-fluid cleaning. Your Grand Cherokee uses hook-style front wiper arms, so the blades slide off and lock back on without removing any trim.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 10-15 minutes
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Do not let the bare metal wiper arm snap back onto the windshield; it can crack the glass.
- ⚠️ Keep one hand on the wiper arm whenever the blade is removed.
- ⚠️ Turn the ignition off before starting so the wipers cannot move unexpectedly.
- ⚠️ Battery disconnect is not required for this repair.
🔧 Required Tools
You'll need the following tools for this repair:

🔩 Required Parts
HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:
- Front wiper blades - Driver: 22", Passenger: 21" - Qty: 2
📋 Before You Begin
- 🚗 Park your Grand Cherokee on level ground and turn the ignition off.
- 🧼 Make sure the windshield is clean enough that grit will not scratch the glass.
- 🧽 Place a microfiber towel on the windshield under each wiper arm. A microfiber towel is a soft cloth that helps protect glass and paint from scratches.
- 📏 Compare the new blades to the old blades before installing them. The longer blade goes on the driver side.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Lift the Driver Wiper Arm
- Use your hand to lift the driver-side wiper arm away from the windshield until it stays raised.
- Place the microfiber towel between the arm and windshield as protection.
- Keep control of the arm.
Step 2: Release the Old Driver Wiper Blade
- Use your fingers to press the small release tab on the wiper blade adapter. The adapter is the plastic connector where the blade attaches to the metal arm.
- While pressing the tab, slide the blade downward toward the base of the wiper arm.
- Pull the blade out of the hook-shaped end of the arm.
- No torque spec applies because there are no bolts or nuts.
Step 3: Install the New Driver Wiper Blade
- Use your hands to guide the new 22" driver-side wiper blade into the hook on the wiper arm.
- Slide the blade upward into the hook until it clicks.
- Gently tug the blade by hand to confirm it is locked in place.
- A click means it is seated.
Step 4: Lower the Driver Wiper Arm
- Use one hand to hold the wiper arm and the other hand to remove the microfiber towel.
- Slowly lower the wiper blade onto the windshield.
- Do not drop the arm onto the glass.
Step 5: Replace the Passenger Wiper Blade
- Use your hand to lift the passenger-side wiper arm away from the windshield.
- Place the microfiber towel under the arm.
- Use your fingers to press the release tab on the old blade.
- Slide the old blade down and out of the hook-style arm.
- Use your hands to install the new 21" passenger-side wiper blade.
- Slide it into the hook until it clicks, then tug gently to verify it is locked.
- Slowly lower the arm back onto the windshield.
Step 6: Test the Wipers
- Use the windshield washer switch on the wiper stalk to wet the windshield first.
- Run the wipers on low speed and check that both blades wipe smoothly.
- If a blade chatters, skips, or lifts, turn the wipers off and press the blade connector firmly until fully seated.
✅ After Repair
- ✅ Confirm both blades park flat at the bottom of the windshield.
- ✅ Check that the driver blade and passenger blade do not hit each other.
- ✅ Make sure the rubber edge contacts the glass evenly across the full blade length.
- ✅ Dispose of the old blades safely; the metal edges can be sharp.
