๐ Before You Begin
- Park your Tucson on level ground and turn the ignition OFF.
- Make sure the wiper switch is in the OFF position.
- Place a clean microfiber towel on the windshield under each wiper arm. This protects the glass if the arm slips.
- A wiper arm is the spring-loaded metal arm that holds the rubber blade against the windshield.
๐จ Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Lift the Driver-Side Wiper Arm
- Use your hands with safety gloves to gently lift the driver-side wiper arm away from the windshield.
- Stop when the arm stays upright on its own.
- Lay a clean microfiber towel on the windshield below the arm for protection.
- Do one blade at a time.
Step 2: Rotate the Old Blade
- Use your hands to rotate the old wiper blade so it forms a โTโ shape with the wiper arm.
- The blade uses a hook-style connector. This is a curved end on the wiper arm that locks into the blade frame.
Step 3: Release the Lock Tab
- Use your thumb to press the small plastic lock tab where the blade connects to the wiper arm.
- While holding the tab, slide the blade downward toward the base of the wiper arm.
- No torque spec applies because this part clips on by hand.
Step 4: Remove the Old Driver-Side Blade
- Use your hands to slide the old blade off the hook end of the wiper arm.
- Keep control of the metal arm the whole time.
- Do not release the arm without a blade installed.
Step 5: Install the New Driver-Side Blade
- Use your hands to position the new 26" driver-side front wiper blade under the hook on the wiper arm.
- Slide the blade upward into the hook until you hear or feel a click.
- Gently pull the blade downward by hand to confirm it is locked in place.
- A light click means it locked.
Step 6: Lower the Driver-Side Wiper Arm
- Use your hands with safety gloves to slowly lower the driver-side wiper arm back onto the windshield.
- Do not drop it. Guide it down gently.
Step 7: Replace the Passenger-Side Blade
- Use your hands with safety gloves to lift the passenger-side wiper arm.
- Place the clean microfiber towel under the arm on the windshield.
- Rotate the old blade into a โTโ shape.
- Press the lock tab by hand and slide the old blade downward off the hook.
- Install the new 16" passenger-side front wiper blade by sliding it into the hook until it clicks.
- Gently pull on the blade by hand to confirm it is secure.
- Slowly lower the wiper arm back onto the windshield.
Step 8: Test the New Wiper Blades
- Use the windshield washer switch to spray washer fluid onto the glass.
- Turn the wipers on low speed and watch both blades sweep smoothly.
- If a blade chatters, streaks, or skips, use a clean microfiber towel to wipe the blade rubber and windshield.
โ After Repair
- โ Confirm both blades sit flat against the windshield.
- โ Confirm the driver and passenger blades do not hit each other.
- โ Confirm the blades park fully at the bottom of the windshield when turned OFF.
- ๐ง Clean the windshield glass if streaking remains after installation.
