📋 Before You Begin
- Park your Altima on level ground.
- Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key or keep the intelligent key away from the vehicle.
- Make sure the windshield is wet or clean before testing the new wipers.
- Place a microfiber towel on the windshield under the wiper arm to protect the glass.
- The front wipers use a common J-hook arm. A J-hook is the curved hook-shaped end of the wiper arm that locks into the blade.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Lift the Driver Wiper Arm
- Put on safety glasses and work gloves.
- Lift the driver-side wiper arm away from the windshield until it stays raised.
- Place a microfiber towel on the glass below the arm.
- Hold the arm firmly.
Step 2: Unlock the Old Driver Blade
- Find the small locking tab where the blade meets the J-hook arm.
- Use your gloved thumb to press the locking tab inward.
- While pressing the tab, slide the blade downward toward the base of the wiper arm.
- The blade will unhook from the curved J-hook.
Step 3: Remove the Old Driver Blade
- Use both hands to guide the old blade off the wiper arm.
- Keep the metal arm raised and controlled with one hand.
- Do not let the bare arm touch the windshield.
Step 4: Install the New 28-Inch Driver Blade
- Hold the new 28-inch front wiper blade with the connector facing the J-hook.
- Slide the J-hook through the blade connector opening.
- Pull the blade upward into the hook until it clicks into place.
- Gently tug the blade downward to make sure it is locked.
- A click means it is seated.
Step 5: Lower the Driver Wiper Arm
- Use both hands to slowly lower the wiper arm back onto the windshield.
- Remove the microfiber towel after the blade is resting on the glass.
Step 6: Replace the Passenger Blade
- Lift the passenger-side wiper arm away from the windshield.
- Place the microfiber towel under the arm to protect the glass.
- Press the locking tab with your gloved thumb.
- Slide the old blade downward and off the J-hook.
- Install the new 16-inch front wiper blade by sliding it into the hook until it clicks.
- Gently tug the blade to confirm it is locked.
- Slowly lower the arm back onto the windshield.
Step 7: Check Blade Position
- Stand in front of the vehicle and look at both blades.
- Make sure the rubber edges sit flat against the windshield.
- Make sure the driver blade is the longer 28-inch front wiper blade and the passenger blade is the shorter 16-inch front wiper blade.
✅ After Repair
- Spray windshield washer fluid before testing the wipers.
- Turn the ignition ON and run the wipers on low speed.
- Watch for smooth movement, no skipping, and no loose blade movement.
- If a blade streaks, clean the windshield and wipe the rubber edge with a damp microfiber towel.
- If a blade chatters or lifts, stop the wipers and confirm the connector is fully clicked into the J-hook.
