🔧 Front Windshield Wiper Blades - Replacement

Your Sierra 1500 uses quick-release front wiper arms, so this job is simple and fast. You’ll remove the old blades from the wiper arms and snap the new ones into place. The key is matching the correct blade lengths and making sure both sides lock securely.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.2-0.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • Keep the wiper arms from snapping back against the glass. That can crack the windshield.
  • Work with the ignition off and the wipers parked.
  • If the arms need to stand away from the glass, lift them gently and support them by hand.
  • No battery disconnect is required.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Safety glasses
  • Mechanic gloves

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blade - Driver side 22" - Qty: 1
  • Front wiper blade - Passenger side 22" - Qty: 1

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and turn the ignition off.
  • Set the parking brake.
  • Make sure the windshield is clean so you can check blade contact after installation.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Lift the wiper arm

  • Carefully lift the driver-side wiper arm away from the windshield by hand.
  • Hold the arm firmly.

Step 2: Remove the old blade

  • Use your hand to press the small release tab on the blade connector.
  • Slide the old blade downward and off the wiper arm hook.
  • If it sticks, wiggle it gently while keeping the arm supported.

Step 3: Install the new driver-side blade

  • Line up the new 22" blade with the wiper arm hook.
  • Slide it into place until you hear or feel a click.
  • Pull lightly on the blade to confirm it is locked.

Step 4: Repeat on the passenger side

  • Repeat the same hand-removal and snap-in process for the passenger-side blade.
  • Make sure the blade length matches the side before installation.

Step 5: Lower the arms and test

  • Gently lower both wiper arms back onto the windshield.
  • Turn the ignition on and run the washers for one cycle.
  • Check that both blades sweep smoothly and do not chatter or lift.

✅ After Repair

  • Test the wipers on low and high speed.
  • Use the washer fluid to confirm full contact across the windshield.
  • Recheck that both blades are fully locked if you hear any clicking or skipping.
