🔧 Telluride - Front Wiper Blade Replacement
You’ll remove the old front wiper blades from the wiper arms and snap new blades on. This restores clear vision in rain and reduces windshield streaking and chatter.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Turn the car OFF before lifting wiper arms to avoid accidental movement.
- ⚠️ Put a towel on the windshield—if an arm snaps down, it can crack glass.
- ⚠️ Don’t let the bare metal arm touch the windshield without a blade installed.
- 🔋 Battery disconnect is not required.
🔧 Required Tools
You'll need the following tools for this repair:

đź“‹ Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and turn the car OFF.
- Place a microfiber towel across the lower windshield where the arms could touch.
- If your wipers don’t lift easily, use the “service position” steps below.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Put the wipers in a safe position (if needed)
- Try gently lifting each wiper arm away from the windshield by hand.
- If the hood blocks the arms, set the wipers to service position: turn the ignition ON, then OFF, then within 20 seconds move the wiper stalk to MIST and hold for about 2 seconds.
- If they still won’t park up, stop and tell me what happens—there are a couple wiper-stalk variants.
Step 2: Remove the driver-side wiper blade
- Lift the driver wiper arm up and away from the glass.
- At the middle hinge where the blade meets the arm, find the small release tab.
- Press the tab and slide the blade off the arm (usually downward toward the base).
- If the tab is stiff, use a plastic trim tool set (specialty) to gently press the tab—this is a non-metal pry tool that helps release clips without scratching.
Step 3: Install the new driver-side wiper blade (26")
- Align the new blade connector with the end of the wiper arm.
- Slide it on until you hear/feel a solid click.
- Lightly tug the blade to confirm it’s locked on.
Step 4: Remove and install the passenger-side wiper blade (18")
- Repeat the same removal steps using your hands and the plastic trim tool set (specialty) only if needed.
- Slide on the new 18" blade until it clicks, then tug-check it.
Step 5: Lower the wiper arms safely
- Lower each arm back onto the windshield gently (don’t drop it).
- Remove the microfiber towel from the glass.
âś… After Repair
- Run the windshield washer and wipers for 10–15 seconds and check for streaking, skipping, or uneven wiping.
- If you hear chatter, clean the windshield with glass cleaner and wipe the rubber edge once with a damp microfiber towel. New blades can squeak on dirty glass.
- Confirm both blades are fully clipped/locked if one looks crooked.
