šŸ”§ Seltos - Front Wiper Blade Replacement

Replacing the front wiper blades is a quick job: you lift each wiper arm, release the old blade from the arm, and click the new blade on. Fresh blades restore clear vision and help prevent windshield streaking and scratching.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours

Quick question (so you buy the right parts): What lengths are printed on your current driver and passenger blades (in inches)?

āš ļø Safety & Precautions

  • āš ļø Turn the ignition OFF and keep the wiper switch OFF.
  • āš ļø Don’t let a bare wiper arm snap onto the glass; it can crack the windshield.
  • āš ļø Put a towel on the windshield where the arm could drop.

šŸ”§ Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Safety glasses
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Clean shop towel
  • Small flathead screwdriver

šŸ”© Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blades - Driver: (match existing length), Passenger: (match existing length) - Qty: 2

šŸ“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park your Seltos on level ground and turn the ignition OFF.
  • Place a clean shop towel on the lower windshield as a safety cushion.
  • If you want more working room, put the wipers in ā€œservice positionā€: turn ignition ON, then OFF, then within ~20 seconds lift the wiper stalk to the single-wipe (MIST) position and release. The wipers should stop partway up the glass.

šŸ”Ø Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Lift the wiper arm safely

  • Use a clean shop towel to protect the windshield where the arm could fall.
  • Lift the wiper arm up until it stays up on its own.

Step 2: Identify the blade connection type

  • Most Seltos front blades use a J-hook (a ā€œJā€-shaped metal hook at the end of the arm that the blade slides off of).
  • If yours does not look like a J-hook, don’t force it—tell me what it looks like (push-button, pinch tabs, or a top-lock) and I’ll match the exact steps.

Step 3: Remove the old blade (J-hook style)

  • Rotate the blade so it sits roughly perpendicular to the wiper arm (makes release easier).
  • Press the small release tab on the blade adapter. Use your fingers or a small flathead screwdriver if the tab is stiff.
  • While holding the tab, slide the blade down and away from the hook to unclip it.
  • Carefully set the wiper arm back down onto the clean shop towel (don’t let it snap down).

Step 4: Install the new blade (J-hook style)

  • Lift the wiper arm back up.
  • Slide the new blade’s adapter onto the J-hook until it clicks/locks.
  • Gently tug the blade to confirm it’s locked on the hook.

Step 5: Repeat for the other side

  • Repeat Step 1 through Step 4 for the other front wiper.

Step 6: Return wipers from service position (if used)

  • Turn ignition ON and do one wipe with the stalk (MIST) or briefly run wipers on LOW, then turn them OFF so they park normally.
  • Remove the towel before testing.

āœ… After Repair

  • Test the wipers on LOW and HIGH.
  • Test the washers and confirm the blades wipe smoothly with no chatter.
  • If you see streaking, clean the glass and blade rubber with a damp clean shop towel.

šŸ’° DIY vs Shop Cost

Shop Cost: $40-$90 (parts + labor)

DIY Cost: $20-$60 (parts only)

You Save: $20-$60 by doing it yourself!

Shop labor rates vary but typically run $100-$150/hour. This repair takes a shop approximately 0.2-0.4 hours.
