🔧 Passport - Front Wiper Blade Replacement

Replacing the front wiper blades on your Passport is a quick job that restores clear visibility in rain and reduces windshield streaking. The key is lifting the wiper arms safely and matching the correct blade lengths and connector style.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Turn ignition OFF and keep hands clear of the wiper linkage.
  • ⚠️ Don’t let a bare wiper arm snap onto the glass; it can crack the windshield.
  • ⚠️ Support the wiper arm with one hand while removing/installing the blade.
  • ⚠️ If the wiper arm hits the hood edge when lifting, open the hood first.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Safety glasses
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Small flathead screwdriver
  • Microfiber towel

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blades - Driver: confirm length from old blade/package, Passenger: confirm length from old blade/package - Qty: 2

đź“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and turn the ignition OFF.
  • Open the hood if the wiper arms don’t lift freely without touching the hood.
  • Place a microfiber towel on the lower windshield area as a cushion.
  • If your new blades include multiple adapters, set them aside and match the adapter style to your original blade connector before installing.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Lift and protect the wiper arm

  • Lift the driver-side wiper arm away from the windshield.
  • Use a microfiber towel to protect the glass where the arm could drop.
  • Hold the arm the whole time.

Step 2: Identify the blade connector type

  • Look where the blade attaches to the arm and find the release feature.
  • If you see a curved “hook” end on the arm, follow Path A (J-hook).
  • If the arm end looks more “flat/rectangular” with a button or tab on top/side, follow Path B (Top-lock/Push-button).

Step 3A: Remove the old blade (Path A: J-hook style)

  • Rotate the blade so it’s roughly perpendicular to the wiper arm.
  • Press the release tab using your fingers; if it’s tight, gently assist with a small flathead screwdriver (a flat screwdriver with a thin, straight tip).
  • Slide the blade down toward the base of the hook, then unhook it and remove it.

Step 3B: Remove the old blade (Path B: Top-lock / push-button style)

  • Locate the button/tab on the connector.
  • Press the tab with your fingers; if needed, gently press with a small flathead screwdriver.
  • While holding the tab, slide the blade straight off the end of the arm.

Step 4: Install the new blade

  • Confirm the new blade length matches the side you’re working on (driver vs passenger).
  • Attach the new blade using the matching connector path (A or B) in reverse.
  • Pull lightly on the blade to confirm it’s locked in place.
  • Listen for a clear “click”.

Step 5: Repeat for the passenger side

  • Repeat Steps 1–4 on the passenger-side wiper.
  • Keep each blade paired to its correct side (lengths can differ).

Step 6: Lower the wiper arms carefully

  • Guide each arm back down to the windshield by hand.
  • Remove the microfiber towel.

âś… After Repair

  • Turn the ignition ON and test the wipers on LOW, then HIGH.
  • Spray washer fluid and verify full, smooth wiping with no skipping or chatter.
  • If the blade “flips,” chatters, or streaks, re-check that the adapter is fully locked and the correct blade is on the correct side.
