🔧 Camry - Front Wiper Blade Replacement

You’ll be removing the old front wiper blades from your Camry and snapping new ones into place on the existing wiper arms. This improves visibility and reduces streaking, chatter, and noise in rain.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 10-20 minutes

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • 🔸 Always turn the ignition off and remove the key before working near the wipers so they do not move unexpectedly.
  • 🔸 Do not let the bare wiper arm snap back against the glass; it can crack the windshield.
  • 🔸 Work gently; the wiper arm is spring-loaded metal and can be stiff to move.
  • 🔸 Battery disconnect is not required for this job.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • 🔸Safety glasses
  • 🔸Mechanic gloves
  • 🔸Microfiber towel
  • 🔸Small step stool

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • 🔸Front wiper blade - driver side (26") - Qty: 1
  • 🔸Front wiper blade - passenger side (20") - Qty: 1
  • 🔸Washer fluid (all-season) - Qty: 1 bottle

đź“‹ Before You Begin

  • 🔸Park the Camry on level ground, shift to Park, and set the parking brake.
  • 🔸Turn the ignition off and remove the key or switch off the engine button.
  • 🔸Lift the wiper arms only one at a time to avoid confusion and to prevent them bumping each other.
  • 🔸Lay the microfiber towel on the lower part of the windshield so if the arm falls, it hits the towel first.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Position the driver-side wiper arm

  • 🔸Stand on the driver side and use the small step stool if needed to reach comfortably.
  • 🔸Use your hands to lift the driver-side wiper arm away from the windshield until it locks in a raised position.
  • 🔸Place the microfiber towel on the glass under the arm as protection. Always protect the glass from metal arm

Step 2: Find the release tab on the wiper blade

  • 🔸Look where the wiper blade connects to the curved metal wiper arm; you’ll see a small plastic “hinge” area.
  • 🔸On this Camry, the wiper usually uses a “hook” style arm: the metal arm curves into a hook that fits into the plastic blade adapter.
  • 🔸On the plastic adapter, find the small tab or button you can press with your thumb to release the blade.

Step 3: Remove the old driver-side wiper blade

  • 🔸With one hand, hold the wiper arm steady so it doesn’t snap back.
  • 🔸With your other hand, press the small plastic release tab using your thumb.
  • 🔸While holding the tab, slide the blade downward (toward the base of the arm) to unhook it from the metal hook.
  • 🔸Once it’s free, rotate the blade so it comes off the hook and remove it from the arm completely.
  • 🔸Gently lower the bare metal arm back onto the microfiber towel so it rests safely on the glass.

Step 4: Prepare the new driver-side wiper blade

  • 🔸Take the new 26" blade out of its package.
  • 🔸Most new blades come with several plastic adapters; for the Camry’s hook arm, use the pre-installed hook-style adapter (the one shaped like a channel with an opening for the hook).
  • 🔸Check that the plastic latch on the adapter moves freely and is not cracked.

Step 5: Install the new driver-side blade

  • 🔸Lift the wiper arm off the glass again and hold it firmly with one hand.
  • 🔸Turn the new blade so the adapter opening faces the end of the metal hook.
  • 🔸Slide the hook through the opening of the adapter, then pull the blade upward so the hook seats into the adapter.
  • 🔸Continue pulling until you hear or feel a click as the locking tab snaps into place. If no click, pull and check again
  • 🔸Gently lower the arm and new blade back onto the windshield.

Step 6: Replace the passenger-side wiper blade

  • 🔸Move to the passenger side and use the small step stool if needed.
  • 🔸Repeat Steps 1–5 using the 20" blade instead of the 26" blade.
  • 🔸Make sure you do not mix the lengths; the longer 26" blade must stay on the driver side so it does not hit body parts or the other wiper.

Step 7: Double-check your work

  • 🔸With both arms resting on the glass, gently tug each blade at the adapter area with your hands to ensure it is locked and does not slide off the hook.
  • 🔸Confirm both blades sit flat on the glass and are not twisted.

âś… After Repair

  • 🔸Start the engine and use the washer switch to spray washer fluid and run the wipers for several cycles.
  • 🔸Watch from inside to make sure the blades wipe cleanly without skipping, chattering, or leaving large streaks.
  • 🔸Confirm the wipers do not bump into each other or the edge of the windshield trim; if they do, recheck blade lengths and mounting.
  • 🔸Top up the washer fluid if it is low after testing.
