🔧 Altima - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement
This repair replaces the front windshield wiper blades on your Altima. Worn blades can streak, chatter, or leave water behind, which makes driving in rain unsafe.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 10-15 minutes
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Do not let the bare metal wiper arm snap back onto the windshield; it can crack the glass.
- ⚠️ Turn the ignition OFF before working around the wipers.
- ⚠️ Keep fingers away from the wiper arm hinge because it is spring-loaded.
- ⚠️ Battery disconnect is not required for this repair.

📋 Before You Begin
- Park your Altima on level ground and turn the ignition OFF.
- Make sure the wiper switch is OFF so the arms do not move unexpectedly.
- Place a clean microfiber towel on the windshield under each wiper arm before removing the blade.
- A wiper arm is the metal spring-loaded arm that holds the rubber blade against the glass.
- Your Altima uses hook-style front wiper arms; the blade locks onto a curved J-shaped hook at the end of the arm.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Raise the Driver Wiper Arm
- Put on work gloves and safety glasses.
- Use your hand to lift the driver-side wiper arm away from the windshield until it stays upright.
- Place the clean microfiber towel on the windshield under the raised arm.
- Hold the arm firmly.
Step 2: Unlock the Old Driver Wiper Blade
- Find the small locking tab where the blade connects to the curved hook.
- Use your thumb to press the locking tab inward.
- While holding the tab, slide the old blade downward toward the base of the wiper arm.
- No torque spec applies because this blade clips on by hand.
Step 3: Remove the Old Driver Wiper Blade
- Once the blade slides free of the hook, rotate it slightly and pull it off by hand.
- Gently lower the bare wiper arm onto the clean microfiber towel, not directly onto the glass.
- Never leave the arm standing unattended.
Step 4: Install the New Driver Wiper Blade
- Pick up the new 26" driver-side front wiper blade.
- Slide the wiper blade connector into the curved hook by hand.
- Pull the blade upward into the hook until you hear or feel a click.
- Lightly tug the blade by hand to confirm it is locked in place.
- No torque spec applies because this blade clips on by hand.
Step 5: Lower the Driver Wiper Arm
- Use your hand to carefully lower the driver wiper arm back onto the windshield.
- Remove the clean microfiber towel from under the arm.
- Make sure the rubber edge sits flat against the glass.
Step 6: Replace the Passenger Wiper Blade
- Use the same process on the passenger side.
- Lift the passenger wiper arm by hand and place the clean microfiber towel under it.
- Press the locking tab by hand and slide the old blade down out of the hook.
- Install the new 17" passenger-side front wiper blade by sliding it into the hook until it clicks.
- Lightly tug the blade by hand to confirm it is locked.
- Lower the arm gently back onto the windshield.
Step 7: Check Blade Position
- Use your hand to make sure both blades sit evenly on the windshield.
- Check that neither blade is upside down or loose in the hook.
- No scan tool, infotainment menu, or service mode is required for this repair.
✅ After Repair
- ✅ Spray washer fluid and run the wipers for a few cycles.
- ✅ Watch both blades sweep smoothly without skipping, streaking, or hitting the windshield trim.
- ✅ If a blade streaks, wipe the rubber edge with a clean microfiber towel.
- ✅ Recheck that each blade is fully clicked into the hook connector.
