🔧 Santa Fe XL - Front Wiper Blade Replacement
Replacing the front wiper blades restores clear visibility and prevents streaking and chatter. On your Santa Fe XL, this is a quick job: lift each wiper arm, release the blade latch, and click the new blade on.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key/fob from the vehicle.
- ⚠️ Don’t let a bare wiper arm snap onto the windshield—place a towel on the glass to protect it.
- ⚠️ Work on level ground and keep fingers clear of the hinge area.
- Battery disconnect is not required.

đź“‹ Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and switch the ignition OFF.
- Put a clean shop towel on the lower windshield area where the wiper arms could touch.
- Confirm blade lengths by checking the size printed on the old blades or the packaging for the new blades. Matching lengths is critical.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Lift the driver-side wiper arm
- Lift the wiper arm away from the windshield until it stays up on its own.
- Place the clean shop towel under the arm area as a safety cushion.
Step 2: Release the old blade from the arm
- Rotate the wiper blade so it’s more perpendicular to the arm (this gives you room to access the latch).
- Find the small locking tab where the blade connects to the arm (this is the “latch,” the clip that holds it).
- If the tab is stiff, gently lift/press it using the small flathead screwdriver while supporting the blade with your other hand.
- Slide the blade downward (toward the base of the arm) or outward (away from the hook area), depending on the connector style, until it unhooks and comes free.
Step 3: Install the new driver-side blade
- Compare the new blade to the old one to confirm the connector and length match.
- Slide the new blade connector onto the wiper arm in the same orientation the old one came off.
- Push until you hear/feel a solid click and the latch fully locks.
- Lightly tug on the blade to confirm it’s secure.
Step 4: Lower the driver-side wiper arm carefully
- Hold the arm firmly and lower it back onto the windshield gently.
- Remove and reposition the clean shop towel as needed.
Step 5: Repeat on the passenger side
- Use the same process for the passenger-side wiper using the small flathead screwdriver only if needed.
- Confirm the passenger blade length matches the old passenger blade before clicking it on.
âś… After Repair
- Turn the ignition ON and test the front wipers with washer fluid.
- If you see streaking, clean the windshield and the new blade rubber with a damp towel.
- If a blade “chatters” or skips, re-check that it fully clicked into the arm.
