🔧 Colorado - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement

Your Colorado’s front wiper blades are wearable items that streak, chatter, or leave missed spots as the rubber ages. Replacing them is a quick job, but you need to protect the windshield so the bare wiper arm doesn’t snap back and crack the glass.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.2-0.4 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • 🛑 Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key/fob from the truck before lifting the wiper arms.
  • 🛑 Place a towel on the windshield where the arm could fall; a spring-loaded wiper arm can chip/crack glass if it snaps down.
  • 🛑 Never let the wiper arm hang loose—keep a hand on it at all times.
  • 🛑 No battery disconnect is required for this job.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Microfiber towel
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Safety glasses
  • Masking tape

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blades - Driver: 22", Passenger: 18" - Qty: 2

đź“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and shift to Park.
  • Confirm the wipers are fully “parked” (resting at the bottom of the windshield) before you start.
  • Use masking tape to mark where each blade rests on the glass if you want an easy alignment reference.
  • Lay a microfiber towel on the lower windshield under each wiper arm as a safety cushion.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Lift and secure the wiper arm

  • Use your hand (with nitrile gloves) to lift the driver-side wiper arm away from the windshield until it stays up.
  • Place the microfiber towel under the arm area as protection in case it drops.
  • Keep one hand on the arm.

Step 2: Identify the blade connector (two common styles)

  • Use safety glasses and look where the blade attaches to the arm.
  • J-hook style: the arm end looks like a “J” shaped hook.
  • Pinch-tab/top-lock style: the arm end is straight and the blade has a latch/tab you squeeze.

Step 3: Remove the old blade (J-hook style)

  • Use your hand (with nitrile gloves) to rotate the blade so it’s perpendicular to the arm.
  • Use your thumb to press the small release tab on the blade connector, then slide the blade down toward the open end of the “J”.
  • Once it slides free, remove the blade completely while holding the wiper arm steady.

Step 4: Remove the old blade (pinch-tab/top-lock style)

  • Use your hand (with nitrile gloves) to locate the locking tab(s) on the connector.
  • Pinch the tab(s) and slide the blade straight off the arm.
  • Do not twist hard—if it doesn’t move, re-check that the tab is fully released.

Step 5: Install the new blade

  • Use your hand (with nitrile gloves) to match the new blade to the arm connector type.
  • Slide the new blade onto the arm until you hear/feel a “click” (that click is the lock engaging).
  • Gently tug on the blade to confirm it’s locked in place.

Step 6: Lower the arm carefully

  • Use your hand to guide the arm down slowly onto the windshield.
  • Remove the microfiber towel and any masking tape marks you added.

Step 7: Repeat on the passenger side

  • Use the same process for the passenger-side blade (different length).
  • Keep each wiper arm under control so it can’t snap back.

âś… After Repair

  • Test the wipers and washers: start the truck and run the front wipers on low, then high.
  • Confirm there’s no chatter, skipping, or the blade hitting trim.
  • If you see streaks right away, clean the windshield and wipe the new rubber with a damp towel.
