š§ Tiguan - Front Wiper Blade Replacement
Youāll put the wiper arms into āservice positionā so they lift away from the hood safely, then remove each blade from the arm and snap the new blade on. This is quick, but you want to avoid letting the bare wiper arm spring back and crack the windshield.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours
ā ļø Safety & Precautions
- ā ļø Keep fingers clear of the hinge area when lifting the wiper arm.
- ā ļø Never let a bare wiper arm snap down on the glass; set a towel on the windshield as a cushion.
- ā ļø Use the wiper āservice positionā so the arms clear the hood edge properly.
- Battery disconnect is not required.

šØ Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Protect the windshield and lift the wiper arm
- Use masking tape to mark the parked position of each blade on the windshield. Makes alignment easy.
- Use a clean shop towel under the arm area as a cushion.
- Lift the driver-side wiper arm up until it holds itself away from the glass.
Step 2: Remove the old wiper blade (two common connector types)
- Wear nitrile gloves for grip.
- If your blade has a push-button/top-lock tab:
- Press the button on the connector while sliding the blade downward (toward the base of the arm) to release it.
- If your blade uses a J-hook (hook-shaped end):
- Rotate the blade 90° to the arm, then slide it down and out of the hook.
- Once the blade is off, gently set the arm down onto the clean shop towel (donāt let it snap down).
Step 3: Install the new wiper blade
- Use safety glasses and keep your face back as you work around spring-loaded arms.
- Attach the new blade to the arm using the same connector style as removal:
- Slide it on until you hear/feel a solid āclickā or it locks in place.
- Lightly tug the blade to confirm itās locked.
Step 4: Repeat on the passenger side
- Use nitrile gloves and repeat Steps 1ā3 for the passenger-side wiper.
- Keep the clean shop towel in place any time an arm is raised.
Step 5: Exit service position
- Remove the masking tape from the windshield.
- Turn the ignition ON and cycle the wipers once with the stalk; they should return to the normal parked position.
ā After Repair
- Test wipers on low speed, then high speed, and confirm thereās no chatter, skipping, or uneven wipe.
- Spray washer fluid and verify both sides wipe cleanly without hitting the hood edge.
- If wiping is streaky, clean the windshield and blade rubber with a clean shop towel.
