How to Replace Front Windshield Wiper Blades on a 2018 Toyota Land Cruiser
Step-by-step instructions, required tools/parts, safety tips, and post-install wiper testing

🔧 Land Cruiser - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement
Replacing the front wiper blades on your Land Cruiser is a quick job: you remove the old blades from the wiper arms and snap new ones on. Fresh blades improve visibility and reduce streaking and chatter.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key/fob from the vehicle before starting.
- ⚠️ Do not let the wiper arm snap onto the glass—place a towel on the windshield to protect it.
- ⚠️ Keep fingers clear of the spring-loaded hinge while lifting the wiper arms.
🔧 Required Tools
You'll need the following tools for this repair:
- Safety glasses
- Mechanic gloves

đź“‹ Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and make sure the ignition is OFF.
- Put a clean shop towel on the lower windshield area where the arms could fall.
- If your wiper arms don’t lift away from the glass because the hood is in the way, tell me and I’ll walk you through the Land Cruiser “wiper up”/service position method.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Lift and support the wiper arms
- Put on mechanic gloves and safety glasses.
- Gently lift the driver-side wiper arm away from the windshield until it stays up on its own.
- Place a clean shop towel on the windshield under the arm. Prevents glass damage if it slips.
Step 2: Remove the old wiper blade
- At the point where the blade meets the arm, find the small release tab (a little plastic latch that unlocks the blade from the arm).
- Press the release tab with your thumb (use mechanic gloves for grip), then slide the blade down and off the curved “hook” at the end of the arm.
- If it’s tight, wiggle the blade while keeping the tab pressed—don’t pry against the glass.
Step 3: Install the new wiper blade
- Confirm the new blade matches the old one’s length and connector style.
- Slide the new blade onto the hook end of the wiper arm until it clicks into place.
- Give the blade a gentle tug to confirm it’s locked. If it pulls off, it isn’t latched.
Step 4: Lower the arm carefully
- Remove the clean shop towel.
- Lower the wiper arm back onto the windshield slowly—do not drop it.
Step 5: Repeat for the passenger side
- Repeat Steps 1–4 on the passenger-side front wiper.
âś… After Repair
- Turn the ignition ON and test the wipers on LOW, then HIGH.
- Spray washer fluid and confirm both blades wipe cleanly with no skipping or streaking.
- If you hear chattering, clean the windshield with glass cleaner and a clean shop towel.
