🔧 Legacy - Front Wiper Blade Replacement

You’ll be removing the old wiper blades from the wiper arms and snapping on new blades. This restores clear visibility in rain and prevents the worn rubber from streaking or scratching the glass.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Turn the ignition OFF before working near the wiper arms.
  • ⚠️ Do not let a bare wiper arm snap onto the windshield— it can crack the glass.
  • ⚠️ Put a towel on the windshield where the arm could touch.
  • Battery disconnect is not required for this job.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Microfiber towel
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Safety glasses
  • Small flathead screwdriver

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blades - Driver: 26", Passenger: 18" - Qty: 2

đź“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park your Legacy on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key/fob from the car.
  • Place a microfiber towel on the lower edge of the windshield as a cushion.
  • If the wiper arms don’t want to lift enough, use the “service position” below.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Put the wipers in a service position (if needed)

  • Turn ignition ON, then turn it OFF.
  • Within 5 seconds, use the wiper stalk to do a single “MIST” wipe (one quick up-tap).
  • The wipers should stop partway up so you can lift the arms easier. If they don’t, skip this step.

Step 2: Lift one wiper arm safely

  • Lift the driver-side wiper arm away from the glass until it stays up.
  • Use the microfiber towel to protect the windshield under the arm.

Step 3: Remove the old wiper blade from the arm

  • Locate the small release tab where the blade connects to the wiper arm (this is the locking clip).
  • Press the tab with your thumb. If it’s stuck, gently help it with a small flathead screwdriver.
  • While holding the tab, slide the blade down and off the hook/connector.

Step 4: Install the new wiper blade

  • Confirm you have the correct length: driver is 26", passenger is 18".
  • Slide the new blade onto the arm connector until it clicks/locks.
  • Gently tug the blade to confirm it’s locked in place.

Step 5: Lower the wiper arm carefully

  • Lower the wiper arm back onto the windshield slowly (do not drop it).
  • Repeat Steps 2–5 for the passenger-side blade.

Step 6: Exit service position (if you used it)

  • Turn the ignition ON and run the wipers once with the stalk, then turn them OFF.
  • They should park back at the bottom of the windshield normally.

âś… After Repair

  • Spray washer fluid and run the wipers at low speed to confirm smooth, quiet wiping.
  • If you see streaks, clean the windshield with glass cleaner and a microfiber towel, then retest.
  • Make sure both blades are fully clipped in and not hitting the cowl (plastic at the bottom of the windshield).
