🔧 Impreza - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement

Replacing the front wiper blades restores clear visibility in rain and reduces streaking and chattering. On your Impreza, this is a quick job: you’ll lift the wiper arms, remove the old blade assemblies, and clip the new ones on.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • 🛑 Turn the ignition OFF before lifting wiper arms.
  • 🛑 Place a towel on the lower windshield/cowl to prevent scratches.
  • 🛑 Do not let a bare wiper arm snap onto the glass (it can crack the windshield).
  • 🛑 If the hood edge blocks the arm, open the hood for clearance.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Microfiber towel
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Safety glasses
  • Small flathead screwdriver
  • Step stool

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blades - Driver: 26", Passenger: 16" - Qty: 2

đź“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key/fob from the car.
  • Place a microfiber towel along the lower edge of the windshield.
  • If the wiper arms don’t lift freely, open the hood for clearance.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Lift the wiper arms

  • Gently lift the driver-side wiper arm away from the windshield until it stays up.
  • Repeat for the passenger-side arm.
  • Hold the arm—don’t let it spring back.

Step 2: Release the old blade from the wiper arm

  • At the center of the blade, find the small release tab where the blade connects to the arm.
  • Press the tab with your fingers; if it’s stubborn, carefully use a small flathead screwdriver to press the tab.
  • Slide the blade down and off the hook-style end of the arm.

Step 3: Install the new blade

  • Confirm you have the correct lengths: driver 26", passenger 16".
  • Slide the new blade onto the end of the wiper arm until it clicks/locks into place.
  • Gently tug on the blade to confirm it’s fully latched.

Step 4: Lower the arms carefully

  • Lower each wiper arm back onto the windshield slowly and gently.
  • Remove the microfiber towel.

âś… After Repair

  • Start the car and test the front wipers on LOW and HIGH.
  • Use washer fluid and check for streaking, skipping, or the blade hitting trim.
  • If you hear slapping or see uneven wiping, re-check that each blade is fully clicked in.
