🔧 2500 - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement

Replacing the front wiper blades restores clear vision in rain and reduces streaking and chatter. On your 2500, the wiper arms are spring-loaded, so the main goal is swapping the blades without letting the arm snap back onto the glass.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Keep a firm grip on the wiper arm—if it snaps down it can crack the windshield.
  • ⚠️ Do not turn wipers on while the blades are off.
  • Wear gloves if the wiper arm edges are sharp.
  • Battery disconnect is not required.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Nitrile gloves
  • Safety glasses
  • Step stool
  • Painter’s tape
  • Microfiber towel

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blades - Driver: verify length on old blade, Passenger: verify length on old blade - Qty: 2

đź“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground, shift to Park, and turn the ignition off.
  • Lift the wiper arms only when you’re ready to swap the blades.
  • Put a microfiber towel on the lower windshield area as a safety cushion.
  • Add a strip of painter’s tape where the wiper might touch, for extra protection.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Confirm the blade sizes

  • Use a microfiber towel to wipe the old blade clean so you can read any size marking on it.
  • If there’s no marking, use the packaging/receipt from the last set, or match the new blades to the old ones side-by-side.
  • Matching length prevents windshield edge misses.

Step 2: Lift the wiper arm into the service position

  • Use a step stool if needed so you don’t pull at an awkward angle.
  • With your hand (while wearing nitrile gloves), gently lift one wiper arm away from the windshield until it stays up.
  • Place the microfiber towel under the arm area as a safety pad.

Step 3: Remove the old wiper blade from the arm

  • Use safety glasses and keep one hand holding the wiper arm steady.
  • At the center of the blade where it attaches to the arm, locate the release tab/clip.
  • Most 2500 setups use a J-hook arm (a hook-shaped end). A J-hook is the common “hook” style wiper arm that slides into the blade’s adapter.
  • Press the release tab with your thumb while sliding the blade down and out of the hook.
  • If it’s tight, wiggle the blade while pressing the tab—do not pry against the glass.

Step 4: Install the new wiper blade

  • Keep the wiper arm lifted and stable using your gloved hand (nitrile gloves).
  • Make sure the new blade’s adapter matches your arm type (commonly J-hook). If the blade includes multiple adapters, choose the one that matches the old blade’s connector shape.
  • Slide the new blade onto the arm until you hear/feel a solid “click.”
  • Gently tug the blade to confirm it’s locked in place.
  • If it doesn’t click, it isn’t fully seated.

Step 5: Lower the wiper arm safely

  • Remove the microfiber towel from the glass.
  • Use your hand to guide the arm down slowly—do not let it drop.
  • Repeat Steps 2–5 for the other front wiper blade.

âś… After Repair

  • Start your 2500 and test the wipers on low speed first.
  • Use washer fluid and confirm both blades wipe cleanly without streaks, skipping, or hitting the A-pillar trim.
  • If you hear chatter, clean the windshield with glass cleaner and wipe the blades with a microfiber towel.
