How to Replace Front Windshield Wiper Blades on a 2018 Nissan Sentra
Beginner-friendly step-by-step instructions with tools, parts, safety tips, and install checks

🔧 Sentra - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement
You’ll remove the old wiper blades from the wiper arms and snap on new blades. Fresh blades restore clear visibility and reduce streaking and chatter in rain.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Keep the wiper arm from snapping onto the glass—set a towel on the windshield under the arm.
- ⚠️ Work with the ignition OFF so the wipers can’t move unexpectedly.
- ⚠️ Don’t lift the wiper arm higher than needed; it’s spring-loaded.
🔧 Required Tools
You'll need the following tools for this repair:
- Safety glasses
- Mechanic gloves
- Microfiber towel
- Masking tape
- Step stool
🔩 Required Parts
HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:
- Front wiper blades - Driver: confirm length, Passenger: confirm length - Qty: 2
đź“‹ Before You Begin
- Park the Sentra on level ground and turn the ignition OFF.
- Put a microfiber towel on the windshield where each wiper arm could touch the glass.
- If you’re unsure of blade sizes, use masking tape to label the old blades “Driver” and “Passenger” before removing them.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Lift the wiper arm safely
- Use your hands (wear mechanic gloves) to lift one wiper arm away from the windshield.
- Leave the microfiber towel under the arm as a cushion. Prevents a cracked windshield.
Step 2: Identify the blade connector
- Look where the blade meets the arm. Most Sentra blades use a “hook” style connection (a J-shaped end).
- If there’s a small release tab/button, you’ll press it to slide the blade off.
Step 3: Remove the old blade
- Use your thumb to press the release tab (if equipped), then slide the blade downward toward the base of the arm to unhook it.
- If it’s tight, gently wiggle while sliding—don’t twist the arm.
Step 4: Confirm the correct new blade
- Match the new blade to the old one by length before installing.
- If the new blade includes adapters, choose the one that matches the old connector style (usually hook/J-hook).
Step 5: Install the new blade
- Use your hands to hook the new blade onto the wiper arm.
- Slide it into place until you hear/feel a solid “click” or it stops firmly.
- Gently tug the blade to confirm it’s locked on.
Step 6: Lower the wiper arm
- Use your hands to lower the arm back onto the windshield gently—don’t let it drop.
- Repeat Steps 1–6 for the other side (use a step stool if needed).
âś… After Repair
- Turn the ignition ON and run the washers/wipers for 10–15 seconds to confirm smooth wiping and no skipping.
- If there’s streaking, clean the windshield and the rubber edge with a damp microfiber towel, then retest.
- If a blade lifts at highway speed, recheck that it fully “clicked” into the arm.
