Step-by-step wiper blade removal and installation with tools, fitment tips, and safety precautions

🔧 Maxima - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement
You’ll remove the old wiper blades from the front wiper arms and snap new blades into the same attachment. This restores clear visibility and prevents streaking or scratching your windshield.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- 🛑 Hold the wiper arm at all times—if it snaps back, it can crack the windshield.
- 🧤 Keep fingers clear of the hinge area (pinch point) while moving the arm.
- 🧼 Place a towel on the windshield as protection while you work.
- 🔋 Battery disconnect is not required.

📋 Before You Begin
- 🅿️ Park your Maxima on level ground and switch the ignition OFF.
- 🧼 Put a clean towel on the lower windshield area in case an arm drops.
- 🔎 Look at where the blade connects to the arm and note the attachment style (common styles are “J-hook” or “push-button/top-lock”).
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Lift the wiper arm safely
- Lift one wiper arm up and away from the windshield until it stays up.
- Keep one hand on the arm the whole time. Don’t let it spring back.
Step 2: Remove the old blade (J-hook style)
- If the arm ends in a curved “hook,” rotate the wiper blade so it’s about 90° to the arm.
- Press the small release tab with your thumb or use a plastic trim tool to gently push it.
- Slide the blade down toward the open end of the hook, then unhook and remove it.
Step 3: Remove the old blade (push-button/top-lock style)
- If you see a rectangular button on top of the connector, press the button.
- While holding the button, slide the blade straight off the arm.
- If it’s tight, use a plastic trim tool to help press the button—do not pry on the glass.
Step 4: Install the new blade
- Compare the new blade to the old one (length and connector style should match).
- Attach the new blade to the arm by sliding it on until you hear/feel a “click.”
- Gently tug the blade to confirm it’s locked in place.
Step 5: Lower the arm and repeat on the other side
- Carefully lower the arm back onto the windshield.
- Repeat Steps 1–4 for the other front wiper blade.
✅ After Repair
- 🚿 Turn the ignition ON and run the washers/wipers to confirm smooth, quiet wiping.
- 🔍 Check that each blade is fully seated and not slipping on the arm.
- 🧽 If you still see streaks, wipe the windshield edge-to-edge with glass cleaner and a clean towel.
