Step-by-step wiper service-position tips, required tools/parts, and safe installation checks

🔧 Sorento - Front Wiper Blade Replacement
Replacing the front wiper blades on your Sorento is a quick job that restores clear vision in rain and prevents scratching the windshield from worn rubber. The key is getting the wiper arms into a safe “service position” and handling the spring-loaded arms carefully.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 10-20 minutes
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ The wiper arms are spring-loaded—don’t let them snap back onto the glass.
- ⚠️ Place a towel on the windshield where the arm could land to prevent cracks/chips.
- ⚠️ Keep the ignition OFF while your hands are near the wiper linkage.
🔧 Required Tools
You'll need the following tools for this repair:
- Safety glasses
- Work gloves
- Clean towel
- Painter’s tape

đź“‹ Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and turn the ignition OFF.
- Put a clean towel along the lower edge of the windshield, under the wiper arms.
- To confirm the correct blade sizes, check the size printed on the old blades (often on the blade frame/label) before installing new ones.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Move the wipers to service position
- Make sure the wipers are OFF and parked at the bottom of the windshield.
- With the ignition OFF, use the wiper stalk and lift it to the single-wipe (MIST) position and hold it for about 2 seconds.
- If your Sorento supports it, the wiper arms will move up into a “service position” so you can lift them safely.
- If they don’t move: turn ignition ON, then OFF, and repeat the hold-to-MIST action once more.
Step 2: Lift the wiper arm safely
- Lift one wiper arm away from the glass until it stays up.
- Apply painter’s tape near the wiper’s resting area as an extra reminder/protection.
- Keep one hand on the arm.
Step 3: Remove the old wiper blade
- At the center where the blade meets the arm, find the small release tab/clip.
- Press the tab with your thumb (or gloved finger) and slide the blade downward/out of the J-hook style arm.
- If it’s stuck, wiggle the blade while keeping the tab pressed—don’t pry against the glass.
Step 4: Install the new wiper blade
- Compare the new blade to the old one to confirm the same length and connector style.
- Slide the new blade onto the wiper arm hook until you hear/feel a clear “click.”
- Gently tug the blade to confirm it’s locked in place.
Step 5: Lower the arm without slamming it
- Guide the wiper arm back down to the windshield slowly.
- Remove the clean towel after both blades are installed and arms are down.
Step 6: Return wipers from service position
- Turn ignition ON and tap the wiper stalk to run a quick wipe cycle.
- Verify the wipers park at the bottom normally.
âś… After Repair
- Test front washers and wipers at low and high speed.
- Check for skipping/chattering; if present, clean the windshield with glass cleaner and wipe the new blade rubber with a damp towel.
- Make sure both blades clear the hood edge and don’t hit the A-pillar trim.
