đź“‹ Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and switch the car OFF.
- Have your new blades opened and ready so the wiper arms aren’t up for long.
- Lay a clean shop towel on the lower edge of the windshield as a cushion, just in case the arm slips.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Lift the wiper arm(s)
- Gently lift the driver-side wiper arm away from the windshield until it stays up.
- Use a clean shop towel to protect the glass where the arm could fall.
Step 2: Identify the connector type on the wiper arm
- Most blades use a “J-hook” style arm (a curved hook at the end).
- If you see a small locking tab/button, that’s the release you’ll press to remove the blade.
- Connector style varies by blade brand.
Step 3: Remove the old wiper blade
- Hold the wiper arm firmly with one hand.
- With the other hand, press the release tab on the blade (use a small flat-blade screwdriver only if needed).
- Slide the blade down and away from the hook/connector until it comes off.
Step 4: Install the new wiper blade
- Confirm the new blade is the correct side (driver vs passenger) by matching it to the old one length-wise.
- Slide the new blade onto the arm’s connector until you hear/feel a click.
- Lightly tug the blade to confirm it’s locked in place.
Step 5: Lower the wiper arm carefully
- Use your hand to guide the arm back down onto the windshield.
- Do not drop it—lower it gently to protect the glass.
Step 6: Repeat for the other side
- Repeat Steps 1–5 for the passenger-side blade.
âś… After Repair
- Turn the car ON and run the wipers on low speed to confirm smooth operation and no streaking.
- Use windshield washer fluid and check that the blades wipe evenly and don’t chatter.
- If the blade chatters, clean the windshield with glass cleaner and a clean shop towel.
