🔧 Odyssey - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement

You’ll put the wiper arms into a raised “service position” (a parked-up position so they don’t hit the hood), remove the old blades, then click on the new blades. This restores clear wiping and prevents streaks or scratching from worn rubber.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.2-0.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • 🛑 Keep fingers clear of the hinge; the arm spring is strong.
  • 🛑 Never let a bare wiper arm snap onto the glass; it can crack the windshield.
  • 🛑 If you lift an arm off the glass, place a folded towel on the windshield as a cushion.
  • 🛑 Ignition should be OFF before you touch the blades, except when setting service position.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Small flathead screwdriver
  • Microfiber towel
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Safety glasses

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blade - Driver: 26" - Qty: 1
  • Front wiper blade - Passenger: 22" - Qty: 1

đź“‹ Before You Begin

  • đźš— Park on level ground and turn the ignition OFF.
  • 🧼 Clean the windshield where the blades rest (grit can cause chatter).
  • 🧠 Set the wipers to “service position” (this means the wipers stop partway up so you can lift the arms safely): turn ignition ON, then OFF, then within 30 seconds move the wiper stalk to MIST and hold about 2 seconds until the wipers move up and stop.
  • 🧻 Place a microfiber towel on the windshield under each arm as a safety cushion.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Put the wipers in service position

  • Use the wiper stalk to set service position: ignition ON, ignition OFF, then hold the stalk at MIST for about 2 seconds.
  • Confirm both wiper arms are parked partway up the windshield.

Step 2: Lift one wiper arm safely

  • Lift the wiper arm gently off the glass until it stays up.
  • Leave the microfiber towel on the glass below the arm.
  • Do one side at a time.

Step 3: Remove the old wiper blade (choose the connector type)

  • If your blade has a push-tab / pinch-tab release: use a small flathead screwdriver to gently press the tab, then slide the blade down/off the arm.
  • If your blade has a J-hook (a hook-shaped arm end): rotate the blade so it’s about 90° to the arm, then slide it down to unhook it (use the small flathead screwdriver only if it’s stuck—don’t pry hard).
  • Flathead screwdriver note: this is a small, straight-tip screwdriver used to press a locking tab.

Step 4: Install the new blade

  • Match the new blade to the side you’re working on (driver is 26", passenger is 22").
  • For push-tab / pinch-tab style: slide the new blade onto the arm adapter until you hear/feel a click, then tug lightly to confirm it’s locked.
  • For J-hook style: thread the hook through the adapter opening, then pull the blade up until it locks; tug lightly to confirm it’s secure.

Step 5: Lower the arm carefully

  • Lower the arm back onto the windshield gently—do not let it drop.
  • Repeat Steps 2–5 for the other side.

Step 6: Exit service position

  • Turn ignition ON and tap the wiper stalk to a normal wipe setting, then OFF, to let the wipers return to the normal parked position.

âś… After Repair

  • đźšż Test washers and wipers on LOW speed first, then HIGH.
  • 🔍 Check that both blades wipe cleanly and don’t hit the hood or A-pillars.
  • 🧽 If you get streaks, clean the windshield and blade rubber with glass cleaner and a towel.
