Step-by-step wiper blade removal and installation with tools, parts list, and safety tips

🔧 HR-V - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement
You’ll remove the old front wiper blades from the wiper arms and snap on new blades. This restores clear visibility and prevents the worn rubber from streaking or scratching the glass.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.2-0.5 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Don’t let a bare wiper arm snap onto the windshield; it can crack the glass.
- ⚠️ Work with the ignition OFF and wipers fully stopped.
- ⚠️ Lift the wiper arm gently; don’t over-bend it.
🔧 Required Tools
You'll need the following tools for this repair:

📋 Before You Begin
- Park your HR-V on level ground and turn the ignition OFF.
- Make sure the wipers are in their “parked” (down) position.
- Place a microfiber towel on the windshield under each wiper arm as a cushion.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Lift the wiper arms
- Use a step stool if needed to reach comfortably.
- Lift the driver-side wiper arm away from the windshield until it stays up.
- Repeat for the passenger side.
Step 2: Remove the old wiper blade
- At the center of the blade, locate the small lock tab where the blade meets the arm.
- Press the lock tab by hand; if it’s stubborn, gently help it with a small flathead screwdriver (do not pry hard).
- While holding the tab, slide the blade down the arm’s hook and unhook it.
- Hold the arm with your other hand.
Step 3: Install the new wiper blade
- Confirm the new blade matches the old blade’s length and connector style.
- Hook the new blade onto the wiper arm hook.
- Slide it into place until you hear/feel a “click” from the lock tab.
- Lightly tug the blade to confirm it’s locked on.
Step 4: Lower the wiper arms carefully
- Remove the microfiber towel from the windshield.
- Lower each wiper arm slowly back onto the windshield.
✅ After Repair
- Turn the ignition ON and run the wipers on LOW for 10–15 seconds.
- Use washer fluid and confirm the blades wipe smoothly with no skipping or streaks.
