🔧 Fit - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement

You’ll remove the old blades from the wiper arms and click the new ones into place. The big “gotcha” is preventing the wiper arm (metal) from snapping back onto the windshield.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Do not let the wiper arm snap onto the glass; it can crack the windshield.
  • ⚠️ Keep fingers clear of the arm hinge; spring tension can pinch.
  • ⚠️ Put a towel on the windshield while the blades are off.
  • Battery disconnect is not required.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Safety glasses
  • Mechanic’s gloves
  • Microfiber towel
  • Masking tape (1 in.)
  • Small flat-blade screwdriver

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blades - Replace in pairs - Qty: 2

đź“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground, turn the ignition OFF, and remove the key/fob from the car.
  • Place a microfiber towel along the lower edge of the windshield (where an arm could hit). Use masking tape (1 in.) if needed to hold it.
  • If your wipers are hard to lift because they sit low near the hood, use Honda’s “service position” trick in Step 1.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Move the wipers to a service position (if needed)

  • Try lifting the driver wiper arm by hand. If it lifts freely and clears the hood, you can skip to Step 2.
  • If it feels blocked/too tight near the hood line: turn ignition ON, then turn ignition OFF.
  • Immediately move the wiper stalk to MIST (one quick upward flick) so the wipers stop higher for service.

Step 2: Lift the driver-side wiper arm safely

  • Lift the wiper arm up off the glass with your hands until it stays up.
  • Make sure the microfiber towel is under the arm area.

Step 3: Unclip and remove the old blade

  • Rotate the blade so it’s roughly perpendicular to the arm (a “T” shape).
  • At the connection point, locate the small release tab.
  • Press the tab with your thumb; if it’s stiff, use a small flat-blade screwdriver to press the tab in (do not pry hard).
  • Slide the blade down/out of the hook and remove it from the arm.
  • Hold the arm while the blade is off.

Step 4: Install the new blade

  • Confirm you’re installing the correct blade for that side (driver vs passenger).
  • Slide the new blade’s connector into the wiper arm hook until it clicks.
  • Pull gently on the blade by hand to confirm it’s locked.

Step 5: Repeat for the passenger-side blade

  • Lift the passenger wiper arm with your hands.
  • Remove the old blade the same way (press tab, slide out).
  • Install the new blade until it clicks, then tug-test it.

Step 6: Lower both arms gently

  • Lower each arm back onto the windshield slowly with your hands.
  • Remove the microfiber towel and any masking tape (1 in.).

âś… After Repair

  • Turn ignition ON and run the wipers on low speed.
  • Spray washer fluid and confirm both blades wipe cleanly without streaking.
  • If you get chatter/skipping, clean the glass with a microfiber towel and glass cleaner, then retest.
