🔧 Civic - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement
You’ll remove the old front wiper blades from the wiper arms and snap new blades on. This restores clear visibility and prevents the wiper arm from scratching the glass if the rubber is worn.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 10-20 minutes
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Never let the bare wiper arm snap onto the windshield.
- ⚠️ Support the wiper arm with one hand while removing/installing the blade.
- ⚠️ If the arm is hard to lift, use wiper “maintenance position” first.

- 🔎 Confirm the new blade length matches what’s printed on the old blade or the new package.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Put the wipers in a safe “service” position (if needed)
- If your Civic won’t let the arms lift easily, try this: turn ignition ON, then turn ignition OFF.
- Within a few seconds, move the wiper stalk to MIST and hold it up for about 2 seconds.
- The wipers should stop partway up the windshield so you can access the blades.
- If this doesn’t work, skip to Step 2.
Step 2: Lift the wiper arm
- Use your hands (no tools) to carefully lift one wiper arm away from the windshield.
- Use the microfiber towel under the arm area as a cushion.
Step 3: Remove the old wiper blade (J-hook style)
- Rotate the blade so it’s roughly perpendicular to the wiper arm.
- Press the small release tab on the blade adapter with your thumb.
- Slide the blade down toward the bottom of the J-hook, then unhook it and remove it.
- Keep one hand holding the arm.
Step 4: Install the new wiper blade
- Align the new blade’s adapter with the J-hook on the arm.
- Slide it into place until you hear/feel a click.
- Gently tug the blade to confirm it’s locked.
Step 5: Lower the arm and repeat for the other side
- Lower the wiper arm back onto the windshield slowly (use your hand to guide it).
- Repeat Steps 2–4 for the other front wiper.
Step 6: Exit service position (if you used it)
- Turn ignition ON.
- Tap the wiper stalk to run the wipers once, then turn them OFF so they park normally.
âś… After Repair
- 🧴 Add washer fluid if low, then test washers and wipers on LOW and HIGH.
- 🔍 Check for streaking or chattering; make sure each blade is fully clicked in.
- 🧼 Wipe the windshield with glass cleaner to help new blades perform better.
