🔧 Enclave - Front Wiper Blade Replacement
Replacing the front wiper blades on your Enclave is a quick maintenance job that restores clear visibility in rain. The key on this model is safely getting the wiper arms into a “service position” so you don’t chip the paint or crack the windshield.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Keep fingers clear of the wiper hinge; it snaps shut hard.
- ⚠️ Never let a bare wiper arm slap the windshield—place a towel on the glass.
- ⚠️ Ignition should be OFF before handling the wiper arms.
- ⚠️ Battery disconnect is NOT required for this repair.
🔧 Required Tools
You'll need the following tools for this repair:
- Safety glasses
- Mechanic gloves
- Microfiber towel
- Plastic trim tool (non-marring)
- Small flathead screwdriver
🔩 Required Parts
HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:
- Front wiper blades - Driver: 26", Passenger: 18" - Qty: 2
đź“‹ Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and shift to Park.
- Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key/fob from the vehicle area.
- Lay a microfiber towel on the lower windshield area as a “safety cushion.”
- If the wipers sit tucked under the hood edge, use one of the service-position methods in Step 1.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Put the wipers in a safe “service position”
- Use the microfiber towel to protect the windshield where the arms may rest.
- Method A (common GM method): Turn ignition ON, then OFF. Within about 30 seconds, use the wiper stalk and move it to MIST (single-wipe) and hold for about 2 seconds. The wipers should move up for service.
- Method B (if A doesn’t work): With ignition OFF, gently lift the wiper arm only as far as it comfortably goes. If it hits the hood edge, stop and use Method A again.
- Service position prevents hood-edge interference.
Step 2: Lift the driver wiper arm
- Lift the arm away from the glass until it holds itself up.
- Wear mechanic gloves to improve grip and prevent pinches.
Step 3: Release the old wiper blade from the arm
- Locate the connector where the blade meets the arm (this is typically a “J-hook” style on this vehicle).
- Press the release tab by hand; if it’s stuck, carefully help it with a plastic trim tool (non-marring).
- If you must, use a small flathead screwdriver very gently to push the tab—don’t pry hard (plastic can crack).
- Slide the blade down and off the hook.
Step 4: Install the new driver-side blade
- Confirm you’re using the 26" blade for the driver side.
- Slide the new blade’s connector onto the hook until it clicks/locks.
- Gently tug on the blade to confirm it’s fully latched.
Step 5: Lower the driver arm carefully
- Guide the arm down by hand until the blade contacts the glass.
- Do not let it snap down.
Step 6: Repeat for the passenger side
- Repeat Steps 2–5 using the 18" blade on the passenger side.
Step 7: Exit service position (if used)
- Turn ignition ON and briefly operate the wipers once using the stalk, then turn them OFF to park them normally.
âś… After Repair
- Remove the microfiber towel from the windshield.
- Test the front wipers on low speed and verify they park correctly.
- Test the windshield washer spray and confirm there’s no skipping or streaking.
- Clean the glass for best results.
