🔧 Grand Cherokee - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement

Replacing the front wiper blades is a quick job that restores clear visibility in rain and spray. On your Grand Cherokee, the front blades use a hook-style attachment, so the swap is straightforward once the old blades are released.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.2-0.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • Turn the ignition off and keep the wipers parked before starting.
  • Lift one wiper arm at a time so it does not snap back onto the glass.
  • Protect the windshield with a towel if you are nervous about the arm falling.
  • No battery disconnect is required.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Microfiber towel
  • Safety glasses
  • Gloves

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground with the wipers switched off and in the normal parked position.
  • Make sure the windshield is clean so you can check blade contact after installation.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Lift the wiper arm

  • Carefully lift the driver-side wiper arm away from the windshield.
  • Use your hand only; no tool is needed for this step.
  • Lift the arm slowly.

Step 2: Remove the old blade

  • Locate the small release tab where the blade connects to the hook on the arm.
  • Press the release tab and slide the old blade downward to unhook it.
  • If it is stuck, wiggle it gently while keeping the arm steady.

Step 3: Install the new blade

  • Align the new blade's hook opening with the wiper arm hook.
  • Slide the blade onto the arm until it clicks into place.
  • Pull lightly on the blade to confirm it is locked.
  • Listen for the click.

Step 4: Repeat on the passenger side

  • Lift the passenger-side arm carefully.
  • Remove the old blade using the same release tab.
  • Install the new passenger blade and confirm it is locked.

Step 5: Test the wipers

  • Lower both arms gently onto the windshield.
  • Turn the ignition on and cycle the front wipers once.
  • Check that both blades move smoothly and do not chatter.

✅ After Repair

  • Spray washer fluid and confirm both blades clear the glass evenly.
  • Listen for skipping, streaking, or uneven pressure.
  • If one blade lifts or streaks, make sure it is fully locked to the arm.
