🔧 Sportage - Front Wiper Blade Replacement

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.3-0.5 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- 🛑 Don’t let the bare wiper arm snap onto the glass—place a towel on the windshield as a cushion.
- 🛑 Keep fingers clear of the hinge when lifting/lowering the wiper arm.
- 🛑 Work with the ignition OFF; don’t turn on wipers while arms are lifted.
- 🛑 Battery disconnect is not required.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Confirm the connector type
- Look at where the blade meets the arm.
- Most Sportage setups use a J-hook (a J-shaped metal hook at the end of the arm).
- If you see a side “pinch” release instead of a hook, it’s a pinch-tab style (tabs you squeeze to release).
Step 2: Remove the old blade (J-hook style)
- Hold the wiper arm with one hand and the blade with the other.
- Rotate the blade so it is roughly perpendicular to the arm.
- Press the small release tab on the blade connector (use your thumb, or use the small flathead screwdriver gently if it’s stuck).
- Slide the blade down toward the base of the “J” and then out of the hook.
- Keep a grip on the arm.
Step 3: Remove the old blade (pinch-tab style)
- Squeeze the two locking tabs on the connector (use your fingers; if tight, use the small flathead screwdriver carefully to help depress a tab).
- While the tabs are squeezed, slide the blade straight off the arm.
Step 4: Install the new blade
- Compare the new blade to the old one (same length on each side).
- For J-hook: feed the hook into the new blade connector and pull it through until it clicks locked.
- For pinch-tab: slide the blade onto the arm until it clicks locked.
- Gently tug the blade with your hand to confirm it’s latched.
Step 5: Lower the wiper arms safely
- Remove the microfiber towel.
- Lower each arm slowly onto the windshield.
âś… After Repair
- 🧪 Turn ignition ON and run the front washers for 2–3 wipes to confirm smooth, quiet operation.
- 🧪 If you see streaking, clean the windshield with glass cleaner and re-check the blade latch.
- 🧪 If the blade “chatters,” make sure the protective rubber strip cover (if included) was removed and the blade is fully clicked in.
