🔧 Elantra - Front Wiper Blade Replacement
You’ll remove the old wiper blade assemblies from the front wiper arms and snap on new ones. The key is getting the wipers into a safe “service position” so you don’t stress the hood edge or the wiper arm.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Keep wiper arms from snapping onto glass; they can crack the windshield.
- ⚠️ Put a folded towel on the windshield where the arm could land.
- ⚠️ Don’t lift the wiper arm higher than needed; the spring is strong.
- ⚠️ Battery disconnect is not required.
🔧 Required Tools
You'll need the following tools for this repair:
- Safety glasses
- Mechanic gloves
- Clean microfiber towel
- Masking tape
- Small step stool

đź“‹ Before You Begin
- Park your Elantra on level ground and shift to Park.
- Turn the wipers OFF and make sure they’re not mid-sweep.
- Lay a clean microfiber towel on the lower windshield as a cushion.
- If you want maximum room, put the wipers in service position using the stalk sequence below.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Move the wipers to “service position”
- Use the ignition button/key to turn the car ON, then OFF.
- Within about 20 seconds, use the wiper stalk and push it to MIST and hold for 2–3 seconds.
- The wipers should stop partway up the windshield (this is “service position,” meaning a maintenance-friendly parked position).
- If this doesn’t work, skip to Step 2.
Step 2: Protect the glass and mark blade position
- Use masking tape to place a short strip on the glass at each blade tip location.
- Use the clean microfiber towel at the base of the windshield where the arms could snap down.
Step 3: Lift the driver-side wiper arm
- Carefully lift the driver-side wiper arm away from the windshield until it stays up.
- Use a small step stool if you need a stable reach.
Step 4: Remove the old driver-side wiper blade
- With mechanic gloves on, rotate the wiper blade so you can see where it attaches to the arm (the “hook” connection).
- Press the small release tab on the blade connector and slide the blade down and off the hook.
- Set the old blade aside and keep control of the wiper arm the whole time.
Step 5: Install the new driver-side wiper blade
- Slide the new 26" blade onto the hook until it clicks/locks.
- Gently tug on the blade to confirm it’s fully latched.
Step 6: Repeat for the passenger-side wiper blade
- Lift the passenger-side arm and remove the old blade the same way.
- Install the new 16" blade and confirm it clicks into place.
Step 7: Return the wipers to normal parked position
- Carefully lower both wiper arms back onto the windshield.
- If you used service position, turn ignition ON and then OFF (or briefly run the wipers once) so they park normally.
- Remove the masking tape markers.
âś… After Repair
- Test with washer fluid: run the front washers and wipers for 10–15 seconds.
- Check for streaking, skipping, or the blade hitting the windshield trim.
- If a blade chatters, clean the glass and blade edge using the clean microfiber towel.
