🔧 Front Windshield Wiper Blades - Replacement
Your Jetta uses standard hook-style front wiper arms, so this is a quick blade swap. You’ll remove the old blades, install the new ones, and then test the wipe pattern for smooth operation.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1 hour
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- Turn the ignition off before lifting the wiper arms.
- If the hood blocks the arms, move the wipers to service position first.
- Protect the windshield with a towel so the bare arm does not snap down on the glass.
- Keep fingers clear of the metal arm spring tension.
🔧 Required Tools
You'll need the following tools for this repair:
- Microfiber towel
- Safety glasses
- Gloves

📋 Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and turn the ignition off.
- Set the parking brake.
- Lift one wiper arm at a time so it does not snap back onto the glass.
- If the arm will not lift because the hood is in the way, use Menu > Vehicle Settings > Wipers > Service Position if equipped.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Lift the wiper arm
- Use your hand to gently lift the driver-side wiper arm away from the windshield.
- Put a towel on the glass first.
Step 2: Remove the old blade
- Locate the small release tab where the blade locks into the hook-shaped arm.
- Press the tab with your fingers and slide the blade downward to unhook it.
- Remove the blade from the arm carefully so the arm does not hit the glass.
Step 3: Install the new driver-side blade
- Line up the new 24" blade with the hook on the arm.
- Slide it into place until you hear or feel it lock.
- Give it a light tug to make sure it is secure.
Step 4: Replace the passenger-side blade
- Repeat the same process on the passenger side using the 19" blade.
- Use the towel again if needed to protect the glass.
Step 5: Test the wipers
- Lower both wiper arms gently onto the windshield.
- Start the car and run the washers once.
- Check for smooth movement, no chatter, and no loose fit.
✅ After Repair
- Make sure both blades sit flat on the windshield.
- Confirm there is no skipping, streaking, or loose clicking.
- If a blade smears, recheck that it is fully locked onto the arm.
