šŸ”§ Camry - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement

You’ll remove the old wiper blades from the wiper arms and snap new blades into place. Fresh blades improve visibility and reduce streaking, skipping, and noisy wiping.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours

Assumption: Common fitment is Driver 26", Passenger 18"—verify the size printed on your current blades or on the new package before installing.

āš ļø Safety & Precautions

  • āš ļø Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key/fob from the car.
  • āš ļø Carefully lower the wiper arm—don’t let it snap onto the glass.
  • āš ļø Place a towel on the windshield to protect the glass in case the arm drops.
  • āš ļø Do not lift the wiper arms too far; use normal raised position only.

šŸ”§ Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Microfiber towel
  • Flathead screwdriver (small)
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Safety glasses

šŸ”© Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blades - Driver: 26", Passenger: 18" - Qty: 2
  • Windshield washer fluid - Qty: 1 gallon

šŸ“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park your Camry on level ground and turn the ignition OFF.
  • Lift each wiper arm up until it holds itself away from the windshield.
  • Lay a microfiber towel on the windshield under the wiper arm area.

šŸ”Ø Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Lift the wiper arm

  • Use your hands to gently lift one wiper arm away from the windshield until it stays up.
  • Place the microfiber towel on the glass under the arm.

Step 2: Release the old blade from the J-hook

  • Most Camry front wipers use a J-hook attachment (a hook-shaped end of the metal arm).
  • With your fingers, press the small release tab on the blade where it meets the hook.
  • If the tab is tight, use a flathead screwdriver (small) to gently press the tab. Don’t pry hard—tabs can snap.
  • Slide the blade downward (toward the base of the arm) to unhook it, then pull it off.

Step 3: Install the new blade

  • Remove the new blade from the packaging and confirm it matches the old one in length.
  • Align the new blade’s connector with the J-hook.
  • Slide it into place until you hear/feel a click (the lock tab engages).
  • Gently tug the blade by hand to confirm it’s fully locked.

Step 4: Lower the arm safely

  • Hold the wiper arm with your hand and slowly lower it onto the windshield.
  • Remove the microfiber towel.

Step 5: Repeat for the other side

  • Repeat Steps 1–4 for the other front wiper blade.

āœ… After Repair

  • Top off the reservoir with windshield washer fluid if it’s low.
  • Start the car and test wipers on LOW, then HIGH, and use the washer spray.
  • If you see streaks, clean the windshield with a towel and washer fluid, then retest.
  • If a blade chatters or lifts at speed, re-check that it ā€œclickedā€ fully onto the hook.
