🔧 Crosstrek - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement

Replacing the front wiper blades is a quick job that restores clear visibility in rain and reduces streaking and chatter. On your Crosstrek, the blades clip onto the wiper arms—no special programming or calibration is needed.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Keep the wiper arm from snapping onto the glass; it can crack the windshield.
  • ⚠️ Work with the ignition OFF and wipers switched OFF.
  • ⚠️ Use a towel on the windshield as a cushion while the blades are off.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Microfiber towel (16 in x 16 in)
  • Flathead screwdriver (small)
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Safety glasses

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blades - Driver: 26", Passenger: 16" - Qty: 2

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park your Crosstrek on level ground and turn the ignition OFF.
  • Lift the wiper arms one at a time so you don’t mix up blade sizes.
  • Lay a microfiber towel (16 in x 16 in) on the windshield under the wiper arm as a cushion.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Raise the wiper arm

  • Lift the driver-side wiper arm away from the windshield until it stays up on its hinge.
  • Place the microfiber towel (16 in x 16 in) on the glass under the arm.

Step 2: Release the old blade from the arm

  • At the center where the blade meets the arm, find the small locking tab on the connector.
  • Press the tab with your fingers; if it’s stubborn, gently push it with a flathead screwdriver (small).
  • Slide the blade down toward the base of the arm to unhook it from the J-hook. Keep one hand on the arm.

Step 3: Install the new blade

  • Confirm you have the correct length for that side: driver 26", passenger 16".
  • Hook the new blade’s connector onto the J-hook and slide it upward until it clicks.
  • Pull lightly on the blade to confirm it’s locked in place.

Step 4: Lower the wiper arm carefully

  • Guide the wiper arm down by hand until the blade rests on the windshield.
  • Remove the microfiber towel (16 in x 16 in).

Step 5: Repeat on the passenger side

  • Repeat Steps 1–4 for the passenger-side wiper using the 16" blade.
  • Use the flathead screwdriver (small) only if the lock tab needs a gentle assist.

✅ After Repair

  • Turn the ignition ON and run the front wipers on low speed with washer fluid.
  • Check for even wiping, no clunking, and no streaks.
  • If a blade streaks, wipe the rubber edge with a clean microfiber towel (16 in x 16 in) and try again.
