šŸ”§ ProMaster 1500 - Front Wiper Blade Replacement

Replacing the front wiper blades restores clear visibility in rain and helps prevent windshield streaks and scratching. You’ll remove the old blades from the wiper arms and snap the new ones onto the same hook-style connection.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours

Assumption: Factory blade sizes are Driver 26", Passenger 22"—match your old blades to confirm.

āš ļø Safety & Precautions

  • āš ļø Keep fingers clear of the hinge; the spring-loaded wiper arm can snap down hard.
  • āš ļø Put a towel on the windshield in case the arm drops.
  • āš ļø Ignition OFF and wipers OFF before lifting the arms.
  • āš ļø Battery disconnect is not required.

šŸ”§ Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Safety glasses
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Microfiber towel
  • Painter’s tape
  • Small flathead screwdriver

šŸ”© Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blades - Driver: 26", Passenger: 22" - Qty: 2

šŸ“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park your ProMaster 1500 on level ground and turn the ignition OFF.
  • Place a microfiber towel on the lower windshield area as a cushion.
  • Use painter’s tape to mark where each blade rests on the glass (helps you notice if an arm gets bent).

šŸ”Ø Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Lift the wiper arm

  • Put on nitrile gloves and safety glasses.
  • Carefully lift one wiper arm away from the windshield until it holds itself up.
  • Leave the microfiber towel on the glass under the arm.

Step 2: Release the old blade from the arm

  • Find the connection where the blade meets the arm (typically a J-hook style: a ā€œJā€-shaped metal hook that slides into the blade adapter).
  • Rotate the wiper blade so it’s roughly perpendicular (90°) to the wiper arm.
  • Press the small locking tab on the blade adapter with your thumb. If it’s stubborn, gently help it with a small flathead screwdriver.
  • Slide the blade downward (toward the open end of the hook) to unhook it, then pull it free.
  • Hold the arm—don’t let it snap down.

Step 3: Install the new blade

  • Compare the new blade to the old one (length and connector shape) before installing.
  • Slide the new blade’s adapter onto the hook, then pull it up until it clicks/locks.
  • Lightly tug on the blade to confirm it’s fully latched.

Step 4: Lower the arm gently

  • Guide the wiper arm back down to the windshield by hand.
  • Remove the microfiber towel and the painter’s tape from that side.

Step 5: Repeat for the other side

  • Repeat Steps 1–4 for the other front wiper blade.
  • Make sure driver and passenger blades are not swapped (they are different lengths).

āœ… After Repair

  • Start the engine and test the wipers on LOW speed with washer fluid.
  • Confirm there’s no chatter, skipping, or streaking.
  • If the wipers streak, clean the windshield with glass cleaner and a microfiber towel, then retest.
