🔧 1500 - Front Wiper Blade Replacement
Replacing the front wiper blades restores clear visibility in rain and reduces windshield streaking and chatter. On your 1500, the blades attach to the wiper arms with a common “J-hook” style connector and can be swapped in a few minutes.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.2-0.5 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- 🧤 Keep fingers clear of the hinge; the wiper arm spring is strong.
- 🪟 Protect the windshield: never let a bare wiper arm snap down on the glass.
- 🔑 Ignition OFF before working around the wiper linkage.
- 🔋 Battery disconnect is not required for this job.

đź“‹ Before You Begin
- 🅿️ Park on level ground and turn the ignition OFF.
- 🪟 Put a microfiber towel at the base of the windshield as a safety cushion.
- 🧷 Assumption: Most 1500 trims use 24"&24" front blades with a J-hook connector.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Move the wipers to a service position (recommended)
- Turn ignition to RUN, then turn it OFF.
- Within about 10 seconds, tap the wiper stalk to MIST once, then release (this often parks the blades higher for service).
- If your blades don’t move to a better spot, continue anyway—just lift the arms carefully.
Step 2: Lift the driver-side wiper arm safely
- Lift the wiper arm away from the windshield until it stays up.
- Use painter’s tape (1 in.) to mark the blade’s resting position on the glass. This helps you verify alignment later.
- Keep the microfiber towel on the glass under the arm. It prevents a costly chip.
Step 3: Remove the old blade from the J-hook
- At the middle of the blade, find the connector where it clips to the arm.
- Press the small release tab on the connector with your thumb, then slide the blade down and out of the “J” hook.
- If it’s stuck, wiggle while keeping the tab pressed—don’t pry against the windshield.
Step 4: Install the new driver-side blade
- Confirm the new blade matches length and connector style.
- Slide the new blade connector into the J-hook until it clicks/locks.
- Gently tug on the blade to confirm it’s fully latched.
Step 5: Repeat on the passenger side
- Repeat Steps 2–4 for the passenger-side blade.
- Keep the arm supported and don’t let it snap down.
Step 6: Lower both arms and remove tape
- Carefully lower each wiper arm back onto the windshield.
- Remove the painter’s tape (1 in.) and the microfiber towel.
âś… After Repair
- đź’¦ Turn ignition to RUN and test wipers on LOW and HIGH.
- 🧴 Use washer spray and confirm both blades wipe cleanly without streaks or skipping.
- 🔍 If a blade “flips” or chatters, re-check that the connector fully clicked onto the J-hook.
